I believe the Ultra 60 still came with the Type 5 (that's what I have anyway). The U60 will not recognize a USB keyboard at the OBP. I know the Blade 1000/2000 (not sure about the Blade 150) came with the Type 6, as those workstation do not have the mini-din connector, only USB. It seems I was mist...

Wow, very nice finds! :) What connector does that Sun 5 have? AFAIR the Type 5 only ever came with Sun's own interface, 1200bps serial with inverted levels over an 8-pin mini-DIN connector. USB appeared starting with the Type 6. This is correct from what I've seen. The Type 6 was available with eit...

And finally, the oldest thing in possession by the IT department, a DEC VT420 terminal with LK201 keyboard: DSC01171.jpg Nobody knows why it's in the office, or when it was last used, but it does work... kinda: DSC01168.jpg The screen was so dull (at max brightness/contrast) that I had to turn off t...

Some junk I found at work
Not sure how interesting any of this stuff is but I thought I'd share what I found anyway. A Sun Type 5 with UK ISO layout: DSC01145.jpg Surprisingly good condition. Doesn't seem to have faded besides the space bar. Maybe the rest of the keycaps PBT or something else? We have a few and some have the...

Keyboard casing damage from cable contact?
I have few Dell AT102W's at work that have mostly been lying in storage for 5+ years. They all had the cables wrapped around them. I got them all out recently to try and start getting rid of them (giving away or selling), but found some were in pretty bad shape: DSC01140.jpg Doesn't look too bad? Ta...

Thanks for the suggestions. The Ducky that Bender16 is selling doesn't seem like great value considering I would need to replace the keycaps - I can touch type most of the time, but there's always the odd awkward password or other situation where I might need to look at the keys. I'm not really inte...

I guess I have used laptops for extended periods and not been driven mad by the lack of a numpad. I found the numpad mode too awkward whenever I tried it. Maybe I should consider TKL... And although the layout is right in that example, the QWERTZ keycaps would be no good for me. Not sure I'd like th...

Hmm, I understand the ergonomic benefits of TKL but find I use the numpad almost exclusively for number entry. Could I get used to doing without? I guess I could buy a separate numpad and put it to the left of the keyboard (I'm left-handed but use the mouse with my right), but that won't help keep t...

I asked Ducky about the status of the Zero DK2108 and it seems there is currently a shortage of Cherry MX Brown switches right now. This may also explain why the Filco Majestouch 2 with browns is also out of stock (blues and reds are available). Was also thinking about the Matias Quiet Pro, but I'm ...

Here's the 8049 in my MCK-101FX: DSC01125.jpg This keyboard was actually purchased in 1991. The back of the PCB says 1990 and "Mode No" [sic] MCK 101 SX-B. Hope this helps. I'll try and take more pics of the keyboard for the wiki when I get a chance, although I've lost the cover for the F-key cards :(

Woo Ireland! I'm Irish too and type on both UK-ISO and US-ANSI. If you want something a bit cheaper you should get an original Cherry board. Their quality is good, but they don't have metal backplates so they're less "solid". I don't know about specific models but maybe someone else can help you wi...

Looking for UK ISO layout with Cherry MX browns
I'm looking for a reasonably priced basic full-size Cherry MX brown keyboard with UK/Irish ISO layout, but there doesn't seem to be much out there. I bought a WASD V2 with browns last year and I'm very happy with it, but with shipping from the US and tax it ended up being ridiculously expensive! :sh...
