It's not for himself. It's an open wiki, Daniel gives away all his work. While I agree with the sentiment it is not as important for everyone, it is however an important work - the wiki is a hit and is used by many as standard reference and research material. So Daniel is pushing the wiki, not his own thing. That Daniel is a poor motivator is a different issue.

I think you should allow him some grumpiness from time to time, but still think he makes an error if he seeks motivation from parallel community effort on specific wiki subjects, for the reasons you guys mentioned here. Not that he should stop asking for contributions (on the contrary), but be less disappointed when not enough people are into something at the same time. Still not necessarily a bad thing Daniel. Do you think Asimov complained about having to write every god damn page himself? You gotta learn to enjoy your writing and your research more. And people do help. In any case I greatly value your contributions and what the wiki is becoming.
