I expect updates to be posted here on Deskthority, too.
A paypal account being under review sounds pretty serious to me.

Greetings!

Here is the DT-only update. You'll hear it here first.

There is no abnormal PayPal review. There is no freeze. There is their normal "who are you really?" request for information for any new account that hits $10K, which this GB has certainly done. Most of the items they wanted to see have been provided to their satisfaction, and the couple that remain we discussed over the phone this morning and they expressed that they believed the answers were satisfactory.

We spent quite a bit of effort making sure that this group buy was 100% legal and on the up-and-up. We may have moved quickly, and maybe have shown the sausage-making process/been more transparent than other buys, but we are pleased with the results so far.

We are doing some things differently than in past group buys. Matt3o's interactive ordering system was one. Another is that we are adding extra payment options for the 5% of buyers who represent 25% of the volume. And we are doing the things that the State and Federal government require us to do, some of which aren't fun.

As of 10:30am PST today, 140 of 207 invoices had been paid, which I take as a good sign. 43 of 58 DT members are part of that.

Regarding posting in both places, I have been posting most things in both places, although the detailed status post is just on GH, mostly because it is manually done and a pita to update. For the past 48 hours I have been working other things, but this afternoon I answered every PM and e-mail I received, including those from DT members. If you send me a PM here, I will get it here and answer it here.

TL;DR PayPal is under control and will be fine. 43 of 58 DT members have paid, and I will post updates on both forums. PM me here and I will answer you here.

*rant*
I fired paypal/ebay over 2 years ago. It's a very nasty company, the spawn of evil. I'd fire them over such a review too. If I pay a 3rd party to transfer money between me and others, then the moment they would have taken away the control over my money like that, it's firing time. I am the customer, if they feel they need something, they may write me a letter and start with "Please". Especially when it concerns my money. But Paypal/ebay isn't getting my money anyway, I wouldn't let them let near it, and if your company or groupbuy uses paypal only, you won't get my money either. :evilgeek:

That said good luck with the group buy, I hope the problems are resolved soon.

Calm down! The only reason why you don't get these key caps is that all your hopes are on the qHACK with Alps switches and a subsequent Alps key caps group buy.

Another update here, then I'll re-post over at that other forum.

- Reminders have been sent to regular members who haven't paid yet.
- E-mails and/or PMs have been sent to large buyers.

OBTW, this group buy isn't PayPal-only, but the majority of members participating wanted that method of payment. Especially members outside of the US. So, ok, we do the PayPal thing.

Further updates to come tomorrow.

As usual the banks are at fault.. for letting PP flourish (amongst other debacles).

What SP color code was the c64 kit, please?

The banks here in Sweden won't let a new profitable business model slip bye and have started a service based on phone apps that makes it really easy for people to send money to each other (in the country). It's free right now but they will start to charge a percentage eventually when people are hocked. Just keep the old (and cheap) wiring services inaccessible and replace them with now convenient (and expensive) ones. Banks are the worst ...on the other hand insurance companies... :x

Daily update:

As of 15:00 PST, 164 people of 206 have paid. Six self-identified DT members are in the not-paid category. All group buy members who paid using a different PayPal address than the one they listed on the order form have been corrected manually. We have had only one member drop out.

All PayPal issues have been addressed; all but one to their complete satisfaction. That final item is in their review process now. Recent history shows that they look at new items at 02:00 PST, so I should know more in the morning. Unless I don't.

TL;DR: Things are coming along nicely. Once the large-volume buyers' funds arrive we should be ready to launch at SP.

PM me or Matt3o with any questions.

Now it is time to see who has paid by the deadline. If you haven't, but meant to do so, now is the time. Make that payment or send me a PM while I go get coffee and download a status report from PayPal.

......
That is so typical for paypal. They lock your account worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, you have to spread your butt cheeks and give them all kind of personal information and they? They sign their mails with first names only. Craig, Jim, Tom. Yeah, doesn't feel right.
Anyway, thx for making this an exceptionally speedy group buy.

Look like I've missed this one...

I figured I'd put a request here anyhow. Being a lower profile key set, I'm really interested in acquiring some for a KBT Pure.

If there's any way I can still get in on the group buy, or take someone's place who's no longer interested, I'd be happy to do so. I can pay immediately, and just need enough keys to cover the Pure. If the order I'm taking over contains extras, that's fine too.

Worth a shot :)

Cheers

just an heads-up regarding sprue marks.

Being the DSA keycap symmetric I asked SP if they could mold the keys upside down so to have the sprue marks on the back instead of the front.

The problem is that on the back you have a seamline caused by the melting process (melted plastics comes from 2 sides and in the point where they merge you get a seamline). This is especially true for dark colors. Also it seems that some legends are not compatible with the upsidedown technique, so at the end we decided to have SP use the standard process.

I saw some test pictures and the seamline is very noticeable and it goes from the bottom up to the top of the key.

this serves uniquely to let people know what slots are available to be taken. those orders are not paid so if you didn't get the chance to pick your kit in the first place, you could grab an unpaid slot.
