There's probably a market (for gamers, maybe) of a sheet of thin coloured plastic with holes punched out to achieve the same effect as a coloured plate. Steelseries fans would just eat them up.

Disassembling / reassembling the keyboard itself would be the bulk of the work in painting a metal plate.
For best results, befriend someone that works at an auto-paint shop Either that, or powder coating would be sweet heh.
