Anyway, I can't understand why so many (or just some) people see such a big difference in the build quality between a RealForce and a HHKB. Seriously. I had a RF board and the outer casing was more flimsy or bendable than that of the HHKB. And besides the case there is only the switches and/or switch mounts. But that again is a personal preference because it only changes the feeling underneath the fingers.

Funny thing is I only always hear that RF build quality shall be better but not WHY or WHAT specifically.
The Realforce has a metal plate, while the HHKB has plastic plate mount switches. The HHKB's plate is actually its own casing.

I think the difference between them is exaggerated, too. But they are built in separate ways.

The HHKB feels fine and in fact many people prefer them over the Realforce. Perhaps the bottoming out on a Realforce is a little harsher because of the metal plate.
Remember too that build quality != good keyboard. I had a discussion with Daniel once where I asked him about a board in his collection that looked great in the pictures and was indeed built pretty well, but in Dan's own opinion was rubbish to type on.

So, it's just metal plate vs non-metal plate.
Based on that .... Of course if one likes a metal plate then a RF is obviously better for her/him, but calling it "better quality" or "built better" is imho a personal appreciation and not a fact. :D

Thanks. That helps me believing that not everybody states their opinion as fact. 8-)

basically: metal plate vs plastic plate (the top case).

It's always tempting to just say A is better than B instead of telling the truth: you like A better than B. The first must be questioned as fact. The second is a matter of taste and puts you on the line when people respond negatively. "You like A? For real? What's wrong with you?"

That's what the weasel words IMHO are for. Go for option one, tie an IMHO bow on it, and hope for the best. IMHO is a cop out though, IMHO.
