In this poll I try to find out how many people are interested in which kits.

I might drop some language choices from the beginning if there are too few people or even nobody interested in some specific language.

I've added JP for Japanese layout. I just realised that JP-layout is very close to Muirium's Honeywell keyboard layout.

RED/EXTRAS shall prevail! <TRANSMIT>

(Must figure out how to hook that key up to the Submit post button at DT.)

Wow, you're quick!

So what colors do Honey/Standard and Honey/TKL have? Only white and grey keys? I have no idea which of
HONEY/NUMERIC, HONEY/FUNCTION, HONEY/MODIFIER, BLACK/FUNMOD and RED/EXTRAS I will need. :?

Why is there no member 7bit_r5 yet? I want to place my order!

The kits will only come in grey/white. I should have added a BLACK/NUMPAD kit, but this is just to see if there is really enough interest to go to the next step.

The more important thing is how many are interested in the language kits.

Edit: ah, 7bit ninja answers most my assumptions as correct.

Good question. Could use some diagrams. I just guessed when I voted, assuming that the TKL and SIXTY kits are conservative grey and white only, and I'd need to opt into black mods and red extras.

What about HHKB style right shift and backspace? Those are some of the best keys in Round 4. Also: Mac mods this time? (Control) Option and Command.

This poll is just to see how much interest there is. Polls can only have up to 25 options. I intend to put only the most basic modifiers into TKL and more options into TENKLESS (not in the poll) and STANDARD.

I'll go for an SA bépo set if legends are simpler than the previous round (basically no Altgr nor triple legendered as I said before) and if the profile is all row 3 (or like Commando profile at least). I don't care if the numrow is only legendered with numbers or signs of the first layer (I don't remember for azerty but for bépo it's $"«»()@+-/*=%) but I prefer it the simplest and still without altgr legends ;)

7bit Do you want a GH post to get their poll votes or it is too soon?

Note there have been a few SA keysets over there recently (probably inspired by round 4 SPH):

Voted.

I hope that there is a " \ " key that matches the modifiers in one of the sets. I know it's not standard, but it's what I like. :)

Same here. Also true for HHKB style backspace. Symmetry in colours is a nice touch.

I think it is sufficient if you post when Round 5 starts for real.

There are enough votes for most of the kits (esp STANDARD, TKL etc.) to give me confidence to prepare and start the group buy with the Honeywell colorscheme.

DE, SE/FI/NO/DK and UK are a done deal. The rest of the language kits would require more people to get reasonable prices.

I only knew "23 Commando". Thanks for the links!

Don't like that Calm Depths kit.

The original IC was called Solarized and based on Ethan Schoonover's Solarized color palette. I preferred the less yellow alphas from what this evolved into, but that's the background on the color way.

I hate colorful source codes. I had a hard time to find out to switch it off, when the color-virus hit Emacs!

As in painting, you can have a really well balanced palette but a bad mixing skill (yeah, I don't like Penumbra)
Bought an Calm Depths Alpha kit and I'm sure it will fit nicely with Space Cadet Scheme from Round 4.

well, I still participate in GB run by very (very) trusted members, but generally speaking people suck at GB.

Absolutely. GBs are a much bigger load of work than many first time organisers think. Matt knows that first hand through being the lynchpin of Retro DSA. A widely loved set, copied by DSA Dolch (which is overdue now…) and surely a whole lot of effort.

Mind, if anyone can pull off a GB it's 7bit. It's right there in his programming. One out, one in!

The biggest issue with most GH groupbuys is the ISO support is pretty terrible and the colour options are often rubbish. The closest thing to a good set is the latest one for GH60 builds (black and orange) but no DSA/SA. At least it has proper ISO keys rather than a load of blanks.

The main reason is that some who participate in a buy-in expect to get certain things for FREE. When they find out they don't get it (mainly due to their own stupidity and lack of reading) start complaining and ditching the Group Buy, no matter who runs it.

Also the amount of extras, special colours and keys seem somewhat minimal and non consequential. Plus the organizers tend to keep quiet about any troubles and difficulties, that will lead to misapprehension by all involved.

That's just my concern with GB's in general. Not dismissing the idea of GB's it's just a lot of new members joining a GB are young. No idea or experience with being involved in any type of purchase, hence very easy to spook (worry) them with (non-valid) innuendos and half-truths, started by some trouble makers and ingrates.

That is why some GB's go off the rails. Although here it seems quite calm and pedestrian, hence it would be what a real Group Buy should be, quick, informative and above all else exciting to participate.

The first time i saw a honeywell board (one of Haata's i think) i loved the color scheme. Excited that you're potentially going to do a GB of it.

:?

I just have to add some missing kits, upload them to the wiki and post the Round 5 thread.
:o

This will take only a few more days.

IMPORTANT: WHAT SHOULD BE IN THE ERGO KIT (for ErgoDox).

This set looks like it has a pretty good ErgoDox kit...I don't actually have one yet so I'm not too sure what exactly is needed.

The Hyper is a base and according to those pictures https://www.massdrop.com/ext/ergodox/assembly
the Ergodox PCB permit to chose between 2u or 2×1u on thumbs so you should add eight blank 1 unit to the Hyper GB Ergodox set.

User avatar

25 Oct 2013, 11:10

I thought the 1 unit thumb keys were in the wrong place on the PCB so you can't use them.

User avatar

I don't know, I do not own an Ergodox but the trace and the numbering seems to permit this variant. To me, Massdrop (or anyone involved) made just one of the choices.
Moreover, maybe some users made customised thumb pads configurations with POS 2u keys as it's a matrix layout.
