Hey, my keyboard arrives next week too! :D

Bought me a Ducky Shine 3 (Full Size, MX Blues, White LED) to go along with these awesome caps. (Or rather the caps to go along with the keyboard? Hmm, I'm not sure which...)

Oh no! Which size do you need? You can hardly have a keyboard without CONTROL.

Backlighting, eh? You know they'll look like this…

I like it. But it's certainly not the usual backlight experience.

I know. :P

It's mostly your review of that yellow Ducky Shine and the pictures with the Round 4 keys on it, that made me think the bleeding light might not look that bad after all...

And even if I wouldn't like it, from what I've heard the Ducky is a good keyboard regardless of the backlighting.

Definitely. The Ducky's a fair wee beast. And the tradeoff between these caps and a backlight is hardly a contest at all. Round 4s really raise it to being one of my favourite keyboards, especially for long sessions. That and the MX reds!

I have a red set of Round 5s lined up for this yellow duck…

A REMINDER:

If you're going to increase quantity of something, DO NOT SEND IT AS IF YOU'RE MODIFYING, SEND IT AS IF YOU'RE ORDERING MORE.

For example, if you've already bought

Code: Select all

HONEY/SPACE450 2
And you want 2 more, DO NOT send it like:

Code: Select all

HONEY/SPACE450 4
Send it INSTEAD as:

Code: Select all

HONEY/SPACE450 2

@lefthandedspatula: Yes, thanks for mentioning this.

You can add orders, but can't modifiy the locked anymore.

What's the minimum I can pay via PayPal? I want to add tracking but it's only $3. Perhaps I can increase the amount of something that I've already ordered to bring it up to the minimum?

Just order it and do only pay if the bot tells you so.

The time until the key caps will be delivered is quite long, so you might order some more keys or some switches etc...

Ah cool, thanks 7bit.

Just to confirm, I can only increase the amount of items I've already ordered, not add any more right?

How come?

I've ordered way too many keys for ErgoDox but I am now wondering if I should be getting space bars and such as a hedge against a future normal keyboard purchase. Maybe if the Ducky is great then I'll order for that and can use that or find a compatible keyboard if I look for one. It feels like I'd only need a few more keys on top of the alpha sets and various random sets that I bought.

I made a partial payment through Google wallet this morning, but I haven't seen an updated invoice yet. I still owe a bit on my order. As soon as I get an updated invoice I'll pay the rest.

I find these SA profile caps to be the most comfortable that I've ever used. Spherical feels better to me, as do the sculpted row profiles. Also the sheer bulk of the caps adds a nice richness to the typing sound, and of course they look magnificent. I can't find any fault in them. That's why I've ordered up a fair old crate full of Round 5!

This here Ducky likely isn't anything spectacular in itself, but it's solid, MX mount and those caps transform it into one of my favourite daily keyboards. What makes it especially good for long sessions is the MX reds. I mostly type on buckling spring or MX greens, so these guys are quite a difference! I'm usually into heavy switches, obviously, and tried MX red out of curiosity. Glad that I did. Like Topre, they're the kind of switch you want several hours into a project. Not as loud and proud as buckling spring, but so much gentler. Besides, the big caps help maintain a proper clack, so I don't miss the clicks as much.

Sometime, when I pluck up the courage to do some of this to my duck, I might pop in some of these. A softer landing for my persistently heavy hands could be just what I'm still looking for. And maybe a black spring on space bar. But I'm noticing its lightness less and less with prolonged use.

Anyway, all of the above could be just as true for your ErgoDox. I haven't used one, but I expect I'd work well on one of those with caps like these and MX reds; after adaptation. I keep putting off learning Colemak until I make or buy a split ergo. My current typing style is frenetic and really needs an education!

You can add more, but can't remove your locked order, becuase we will quite soon send all the money to SP, so clearing out orders are not possible anymore.

When everything has been sold out (way after initial shipping).

When I moved the leftovers to CherryMX and started the Round 6 thread.

Is this ok?
When do you plan to send the order?
Please wait for my money :P

I'd say at least 6 month, but I may be optimistic since there is a lot of packing work.

I sorta started learning Colemak before, but didn't finish. I have been having some trouble getting used to the Dox though (mostly from not committing to it enough due to lack of time) that I have been thinking that I should perhaps learn Colemak on the Dox, so that my fingers and brain associate one type of keyboard with one layout and 'normal' keyboard with QWERTY. Your post suggests that you think it's a good idea too.

FWIW I built my Ergo, and I'm glad I did. If you don't have the tools already it's not cheap...you can expect to spend maybe 150 USD acquiring them, but once you do they'll last for a long time. The actual build rewards patience and thought and care, and the feeling you get when you plug it in and everything works is just fantastic. I feel like I can tackle any hobbyist soldering project now.

Plus, you can tweak it along the way. I used the opportunity to make ergo clears and lube the stems.

I try SA since a week and it needs a little time of adaptation when you come from low profile cylindrical (Cherry/GMK and DCS) but it must be the same with DSA. What I really like is that the extra weight of those caps require less force to type and the homing deep dish is great. What I dislike is the lack of grain on surface : my fingers tend to slip a bit and paradoxically the weight is a weakness too because it's harder to double tap as fast as lighter caps families : the key takes much time to regain its normal high.

If I have to use something else than bépo and qwerty (rarely used and only for legacy purpose on my G80-3000 such as some us-centered games and Linux magic syst req keys) I think I'll go for Colemak too. You can start touch typing right now since it's like driving a car : you only need a little adaptation when you switch for another keyboard and you'll really feel the benefit of every changing (firstly colemak then ergonomic kb)
jefferai wrote:so that my fingers and brain associate one type of keyboard with one layout and 'normal' keyboard with QWERTY.
It's useful if you already touchtype in another layout or if you plan to do it because of work environment. Else, there is no reason to wait. :)

When we reach 100,000 (ie 400%) I add Alps key caps.

I swap daily between Cherry MX with sphericals and Model M with cylindricals and have no problem to adapt, except that 122 keys are definitely too few.

But the wiki says shipping should be in April or May already... So I suppose that was before the deadline got delayed so many times?
