Hello all, you may have seen my other group buy for the ergodox. that has been put on hold due to massdrop. but since i have been able to get a great deal on CNC aluminum cases for it, i decided i better not wait on the opportunity to share the wealth. these are the 2 part cases from the ergodox website .stl files. flat bottoms, as well as anodized black. in order to make the purchase we need only 20 people to contribute 85 dollars and you will make a part of ergodox history! that isnt including 1 for myself as i still want to build my first keyboard. i also have some blue and black Cherry MX switches, and i am purchasing some backlit PCB's so if you are also interested in any of those let me know. thank you and lets get some purchases.

I might be interested, is this full hand or the smaller case?
I am not really very familiar with the specific case design.. does it include a plate?
How much would the shipping come to (I live in Norway)?
You might have problems convincing people you can be trusted since you are fairly new to the scene (I am as well)..
Are the new ergodox PCB designs ready? It would be a shame to produce a bunch of buggy PCB's.

Thanks for organizing:)

I'm wondering if you have a sample or plans for tests - STL files don't always convert cleanly to CNC toolpaths.

I'd be up for it too!

I had converted the .stl file to an iges so the geometry is slightly different. im going to be ordering the top left side just to make sure all fits well. until then i dont want to spend all this money and send it out to find out dimensions were off by 4 mm and now nothing fits.

Im definitely new, and i dont want to pull the trigger on this until the PCBs, switches and this top left side arrives so i can guarantee a product. Speaking of pcb, i did speak with Jarl, the backlight designer, he said that the led components are extremly hard to solder being that you need stencils and a reflow device, but they work. the pcb is fully backwards compatible without led components. switches are on the way and pcbs will be ordered next friday!

Why I should get the new PCB if it's that hard to solder?
I'm decent with a good iron, but I don't have that kind of equipment, and I think that goes for most.
Czarek, mechanicalkeyboards.com and massdrop already provides the old PCB.
Do you plan to offer the PCB's already populated/constructed?
I might rather wait for Acidfire's project, which it seems may have individual rgb leds!

The case sounds cool, it's good to hear that you are doing a small trial run first.
Post pictures! :D

Sounds like a good plan to me; count me in as interested.

Please post samples, or at least a render of your converted design.

If "hard to solder" means SMD, that's probably just the common fallacy of SMDs being hard or impossible to solder in action again. I've soldered plenty of SMDs by hand, with a soldering iron, without any problem. Even some QFN packages.

Here's an example: http://chronoduino.orcinus.me/index.php ... =Main_Page

It's fairly easy to do once you get past the "hard to solder" rubbish, as long as you have some flux and a desoldering braid handy ;)

...and a flat tip. Otherwise, they're a PITA indeed.

True. I never had much luck with the spade tip either.
