I like the fake mono legends! As time goes on, and their awesomeness becomes apparent, more people who skipped them, wondering what good they were, will be kicking themselves.

Finally got my package today! It was like one of the 12 tasks from Asterix & Obelix to find the permit A 38.

Image

If i had not called on Saturday that there must be something wrong that the package is hold for 2 weeks at the customs, it would have sent back to the USA in the next days. After a view calls yesterday and on Monday the package was sent to the next postal service. After paying the normal customs fee as usual, i got the caps in my hands. It was sent as a letter and not as a package, maybe that's the reason.

I will make some porn shooting later, have brought my camera to work, and also a macro lens for detailed texture shots.

Still no update on the USPS tracking since July 13. I've also been checking the tracking number at the Norwegian mail service pretty frequently, but nothing. But today I realized that you can use your phone number to get all pending shipments in the mail system (Norwegian). And there it was! It has been sitting at my local post office since the 23rd. Luckily they don't return mail for 14 days. I can't wait to pick it up. (actually I have to, but hopefully this weekend).

Edit: The reason why I couldn't find it by using the tracking number, was because the Norwegian mail gave it a new one! I have seen that before, but then you would still find it with the original number, since it was registered as a reference.

Ah, permit A38. That must be in one of the movies, as I remember it well. No wonder Rome fell!

Using a proxy (my brother who was over here on a trip just this weekend) turned out pretty good. These Zoll stories aren't giving me much confidence in the direct route.

So I still have the record, 3 weeks for Vim GB caps and ~2 months for some $4 cable from China :d
Asterix.... just love the BD's and cartoons .... and The 12 tasks are EPIC ! I experienced that too many times in this ex communist country ....

Britain was communist too. State run industries, hospitals, telecoms, etc. until the 1980s. We just kept the King (and later Queen) instead of some other top dog they never ask you about!

I know, but I doubt you can compare it with a totalitarian regime.... I can tell you stories... first hand :(

Indeed. We had courts and process that the Soviet satellites did not. But, if anything, the bureaucracy over here was even more like Asterix. There's still plenty of that excess and attitude left over. By public demand! Every time a horse bolts, we build another gate to slam shut.

After arriving at Frankfurt, it needed 7 working days until my track got an update that it was processed. Then it arrived in 2 days. But yeah you are right, the summer holiday could be an issue, whereas it shouldn't be! Good Luck, you'll need it ;)
BTW: I didn't had to go the Zoll to get my package. It directly arrived at my front-door and I only payed 26 Euro to the DHL guy (because i didn't pay more than 150 Euro with shipping, luckily me ;) ).

I love the way people in democratic countries like to complain about lack of democracy.
In fact, there's a huge difference between unsatisfactory details and a fundamental absence of rights.
And by the way, if State-run services were that bad, you bet police and army would be run by private companies

[continuing off-topic]
Despite what you might imagine, I think we went too far in the opposite direction and privatised willy-nilly in the 80s. I'm Scottish and this place was just gutted by Thatcher's lot. 30 years later her party still can't even come in the top two in elections.

Socialism was very much alive and well in Britain through the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. Churchill's wartime coalition government was profoundly left wing, for good reason, and the post war governments left most of that intact. For better and for worse. A couple of generations later, we were further behind America than we'd ever been before, and we had grown up with a cradle to grave culture of dependence on government in every aspect of our lives. Burning that down did not come easy. And we still haven't really caught up (innovation, education and economically) with the other English speaking nations or Germany for that matter.

I'm no socialist (all left wing ideologies require the extinction of greed…) but I don't confuse the Stalin-installed governments of eastern Europe with state power outright. They were just petty dictatorships with a red theme.

To get back on topic: the texture and the caps are really great. I have some holes between the caps on the keyboard (don't know how to explain right now), like caps on an IBM model M keyboard, but i have absolutely no problem with it. The alignment of the letters is nowhere that bad that i would have to complain. Somehow i love that the international symbols are now light blue. It fits perfect to the light grey caps! As i expected the alpha caps are really light-light grey, i was not sure from the beginning - from the first renderings it always looked way to dark.

I would love to see this design, the letters, the symbols, on other caps in future!

After mounting Granite keycaps to my MX blue switches, the tactile sensation started to feel abit lighter, abit too light. Maybe I need MX greens now? Anyone else experienced this phenomen?

What did you have on before? It'll be subjective, and depends on what you were used to. I find SA caps make switches seem to feel a bit lighter, as I get leverage on them, or maybe just their sheer size makes me assume I need to type harder and I'm surprised.

DSA is as simple as it gets.

Finally got my package. I haven't had the time to do a full inspection of every single key yet, but overall things are looking good. Not perfect, but good. The biggest issue being that my ISO enters are missing in action, but I'm sure SP will fix that. Alignment and legends are for the most part looking good. Here are some crapPhone pictures:

Ducky mini with Tex alu case.

Image
It's not so much the alignment, as it is the bottom of the W that is a bit deformed. Haven't found any keys with bad stem-placement so far.

Image
The legends on the Æ, Ø and Å are a bit off center.

Overall really happy with how they look in person. Thanks to matt3o and Signature Plastics for making this work out. My first experience with DSA, but they feel good to me. I'm used to typing on flat laptop keyboards, so I didn't expect that to be an issue.

Not that it's relevant, but since it has been discussed a bit... On my $360 order, I payed $89 in taxes and $43 for "customs handling". At least I wasn't charged extra for re-shipping the package from their office (I've had that happen a couple of times).

Effective 37% tax, eh? Ouch. Still, good to see someone else thought the same as me and used the Cyrillics for a second keyboard. I'm just short a space bar (due to trade soon) until I can cover my custom ANSI 60% as well.

@Muirium, beforehand I had default Filco ABS keycaps on my MX blues ... Granite keycaps seem to be a little bit more massive, so the tactile sensation of the switch went lighter, too flimsy now for my taste. I guess massive keycaps need heavy springs.

Regarding customs: I don’t know about other countries, but in Germany a sending is free of taxes and customs when it’s value of good is below 45 € and if it’s sent with the declaration “gift”. Of course the sender address shouldn’t show traces of a commercial deal and the package shouldn’t include any bill or papers (again no sign of a commercial deal). Signature Plastics won’t play that game with us, but maybe there are other ideas ... Let’s discuss this matter!

My ISO Enter is also missing from my shipment :(
And some keys are misaligned which I hope to get replaced as well. So no pictures from me for now.

I won't argue personal feel, there are too many factors on that, but the pure weight calculation doesn't support that theory:

Really massive keycaps weight up to 2.5 g, that's the average for my beam spring keyboard. DSA retro (ABS) weights around 1 gram per keycap. I don't know about DSA PBT, but these are also relatively thin keycaps, so the weight difference between a thin filco cap and DSA PBT should be less than half a gram in any case.

Typical actuation forces for Cherry MX, on the other hand, are: MX blue 50 cN, MX green 80 cN (a cN equals the gravity force on a gram). So the difference between MX blue and MX green is at least 60x the difference between Filco and DSA caps.

@Halvar Well “flimsy” is maybe abit exaggerated, but it goes in that direction. A tad lighter.

@kakarlsen What I like are the Cyrillic characters in terms of readability, they strike the eye, strong and blazing, I wished the AltGr-legends € µ @ ² ³ { [ ] } ~ | \ would be the same. :-(

international kit legends are centered, Cyrillic are not. To keep a pleasing visual weight the second (and third) legend on the international kits is light and small on purpose.

First (productive) day at work with my Granite set. So far i really like the caps, especially their design. The DSA profile is not as i thought it would be. I have absolutely no problems with typing, i'm as slow to fast with lot's of typos as before. The only thing which i do not like with DSA profile is the F-row, there another (higher) profile would be really great. But that's of course a foolish complaint when talking about DSA caps.

One complaint i already mentioned is the form of the caps, a lot of them are warped, and have different sizes. In the end with the caps on a keyboard it looks like to big / wrong tooth spaces. I have no big problem with it. I think i'm too lazy to get something started with Signature Plastics.

Here's Brigitte Bardot, who was famous to make gap tooth sexy in the 50s:

Image

And here are my caps with a wrong RETURN key (i will get my RETURN key from another user here):

Image

I'm looking for these yellow / orange WIN and MENU caps, but i have to make some pictures first of what i have for trade. I would also buy them in the aftermarket, if someone doesn't want to use these caps.
