Question about opening covers on Cherry MX switches:
Plate-mounted-with-cutouts _versus_ PCB-mounted --
How do they compare when opening MX switch covers?
I'm asking anyone who has experience with both
to please comment on the comparative ease or difficulty;
which is faster to open, which do you prefer & why, etc.
Thanks.

You can open PCB mounted switches quite easily. Plate mounted switches can't be opened without a special plate that has holes enabling you to open a switch without desoldering.

If the switches are new, loose, or desodlered you can open them both at the same speed and with the same technique.

Keyboards with PBC-mounted switches from Cherry cost around 50 to 60 €. Keyboards that have a plate with cutouts -- I don't know any besides awfully expensive DIY projects. :|

I haven't used a plate with cutouts, but I have opened PCB-mounted switches and I don't know why there should be a big difference, both should be quite similar. With a plate with cutouts some simple tools like screwdrivers might not work, but it's easy to make a tool for this task with a paper clip and a plier.
