This is weird - it looks like a "bigfoot" Model F, but it was made in 1996 by Lexmark and is labelled a Model M:
I had no idea they were making this old style of keyboard as late as 1996.

Webwit has that part number as a Bigfoot F:
http://deskthority.net/photos-f62/ibm-m ... -t158.html
The auction keyboard is two years younger and an M — maybe IBM wanted to save costs but didn't want to mess up people's re-ordering with a new part number?
Weird.

I forget who and if it was here or geekhack, but someone bought one and made an informative thread on it, if I have time today to hop on my computer I'll find and link it. I wish I had more money as I'd buy and preserve as many model F's as possible as, for the time being, the supply will eventually dry up and that is a sad thought.mr_a500 wrote:This is weird - it looks like a "bigfoot" Model F, but it was made in 1996 by Lexmark and is labelled a Model M:

I think he has 2 listings combined. 4176191 is the Model F Bigfoot, which is the PN on the box. The Model M pics must have come from some other listing, and he got them confused?Touch_It wrote: ↑mr_a500 wrote:This is weird - it looks like a "bigfoot" Model F, but it was made in 1996 by Lexmark and is labelled a Model M:

The box and the keyboard both say 1/30/96, so it looks like IBM or Lexmark got confused! That or the seller has spent his whole life waiting for this coincidence, or he botched faking the labels ;-)elecplus wrote: ↑I think he has 2 listings combined. 4176191 is the Model F Bigfoot, which is the PN on the box. It's a Model F refurbished in 1996, which Lexmark incorrectly labeled Model M.Daniel Beardsmore wrote: ↑The box and the keyboard both say 1/30/96, so it looks like IBM or Lexmark got confused! Depends on how pedantic you want to be.
I don't own one, but I've used a Symbolics lisp machine keyboard during a summer job in the 1980s. Not quite a space cadet keyboard (it was somewhat simplified), but close enough. Where I got my preference for calling what the "Backspace" key does "Rubout"

I think I payed less than $100 for the one going for $1200 at eBay. Much overpriced.
