I took it down. Sorry. I know Mu would not have chosen that one anyway. I wasn't happy with it either. I'll take another shot at it tomorrow. Nice photekq. Your super close ups make for good header images! They're sooo smooth.mr_a500 wrote:Arg. What happened to the one I liked?
I agree that the logo readability wasn't the best, but it had all the elements I liked. Can't we find another crop for it?

The S is great, especially the gradient to the left of the cap!

One of the advantages of using cheap-o macro rings. Incredibly, incredibly shallow depth of fieldmadhias wrote: ↑The S is great, especially the gradient to the left of the cap!

The second one's out of focus, that's what's not quite right.
The first one is better, but I think it would work a lot better with greater depth of field (less bokeh, higher f/number) as there's just a slim bit that's not deep in blur. A nice enough effect, but distracting as a site graphic.
I'd like to see Photekq do that macro-tube trick to a cap with a DT legend! Maybe try on a mod with more text on it… these single letters seem to want to spell something out of outsized significance, but don't.

If I had a DT cap I'd give it a try, Mu
You're right, I'll have to try it on a modifier.

Chzel's boxed SSK shot gave me an idea…
Some more space at the left of the picture would make this task much easier!
I'll try adding a black extension and see if it works…

Maybe this works better?
It's from another pic. Take 2 Take 2 highlight boost BTW is there a way to preview the header image without actually posting?

Maybe. I'm not a fan of dim images though. They don't look moody to me, they just look like they need a levels boost!
Here's the other approach, a sneaky bit of Photoshopping your background over… Any of you kids got a new enough Photoshop to try smart fill? I'm on CS1 here, which explains why I'm generally against such trickery: I cannae dae it!

looks good that way! The box could go a bit further to the right though, and a bit down. Here's the other approach, a sneaky bit of Photoshopping your background over…

Aye, chief. I still haven't come up with an adequate way to preview these before making them live. (Anyone got a layer of the site logo in its accurate size and position?) Let's see if this is any better:
Looks good to me. The box corner slides right in front of the bowl of the R in DESKTHORITY, which is a nice accident. Anyone got better ideas or do I make this live?
You and your post editing, Seebart. I only spotted that last bit of advice a touch too late… look at the top of the page!

I like it but I need someone to do a smart fill job on that left-hand side ASAP before I lose my mind!

Improved versions are indeed welcome. I'll swap it out for a better one if it shows up. My 13 year old version of Photoshop isn't pretty at that kind of work. Perhaps I'll try a blur to get rid of those details, but enough fiddling for me for now!
It's a nice shot. Well done! Now remember to aim a little to the left of things in future, if you want them in the header…chzel wrote: ↑My first header image!

It's a lot more subtle, I like it. Maybe it'd be better if the gradient was a bit more gradual?

Well the problem I have with it now is that it does not look like a box (the packaging) anymore. And it's a little too dark. I'll take another shot at it later today.

I think that it does look like a box, after all you can see the cardboard structure. All in all, I think it is rather up to the task. As Madhias said, it's a good crop that works well with the DT logo.
