It is Height adjusted for me, the only thing are the edges of the desk, need to sand it down. Made a whole set of these benches, retrofitted for my old apartment.

Gonna have some photos caught on Ilford FP4+ and developed with caffonol-C in a while. The photoshot will start as soon as my Poker II arrives. (yeah, still waiting, since november..)

My neighbour has lent me his lovely professional grade EIZO 24 monitor, complete with hood and built-in calibration thingy... a nice new set up. Annoying however, for when he takes it back, I'll be needing to purchase an additional monitor!! Any tips? I'm keen on either a NEC or EIZO, 24 inches. I only need a base model and am keen on either getting a graded unit or something secondhand.

i love HP monitors, the HP LP2475w is getting old now but its very accurate colour wise has more inputs than you can shake a stick at ( it as that cool time when everything had display port and legacy stuff like component and s-video).

and if you are feeling flush the LP2480zx.

There are multi-input variants as well but that increases input lag (bad for games). The other option is going with an active DisplayPort -> Dual-Link-DVI adapter.

There are 2 big options :
Glossy IPS made by LG @ 60 hz (Yamakasi, Catleap)
Glossy/Matte PLS made by Samsung @ 60Hz (X-Star, Qnix) These are overclockable to 96Hz and most of them go up to 120hz (again mostly for gaming).

i have the hazro HZ27WB as well and it is very nice the panel is very uniform no dead pixels or anything and the metal stand is loverly. backlight uniformity is not that good i had to send one back due to this problem and the replacement was much better

colours are good on it too not as good as the HP but almost there, i wish it did not use PWM for the backlight tho

never go for glossy screens they may look cool in the shop but they are just terrible to live with ( part of why the older cinema display for apple is way better than the new one

if you do colour accurate work you want to stick with CCFL backlight over LED

To be honest I had no clue they have pwm backlight and strobing problems. I've had my Shimian (IPS) for over 2 years now and got an X-Star (PLS) last year and I never noticed any flickering. Does this effect show up on a mobile phone camera or do I need something better ? I just did a quick test and there's no flicker.

Pretty much all my friends have one or more, and the backlight bleeding problems are pretty rare. 1 out of 10 had some problems which were easily fixed.

I must admit, I've always been a little bit of a brand whore, the unknown brands fill me with horror, especially when I'm spending hundreds of pounds and not tens. The brand issue does bother me to the extent that I only use original staples in my REXEL stapler and only fit Mercedes-Benz parts to my car.

OEM is of course the next best thing, but even then, as a former computer repairer, for Apple, I know the difference between branded parts and branded parts for a particular company. The latter generally speaking, are made to a different specification. But companies do often have large mark ups on such items.

A case in point, last week my washing machine needed new dampers, its a 1997 model but still has plenty of life left it in. The replacements from Miele UK cost £77 with free postage. The parts in question were made by Suspa DE. I found a supplier on eBay selling near identical parts for about £20 less, + postage, so the difference in price, on the actually part, wasn't really significant. Although the parts looked identical, minus the M word, the Miele item was rated at 120nm and the OEM at 140nm. Some may argue that a stiffer damper is a better damper, and yes, that may be true, but I am sure a Miele engineer would be shot by firing line, if s/he didn't properly calculate the correct operating force required per damper, for a particular model etc. Hence, at least to my basic understanding, the 120nm variant was only available stamped with Miele.

I think I'd sleep better, with a branded monitor hooked up to my iMac.

Go buy a 27" 2560x1440 Apple Display (not sure what's the exact name), take it apart and note all the product numbers / manufacturers from the controller pcb and the actual LCD display. Now do the same with a 300$ Yamakashi Shimian and compare them. You'll find them to be 100% the same. I'll let you google the price of that Apple monitor yourself

If only they made a matte version! The iMac display is lovely, the 27 inch panel is good but some idiot at Apple decided we all must LOVE glossy displays. I hate the glossy display and have tried various films, to reduce the reflections and glare. Some have worked but in solving those issues, create a new one. Text looks very fuzzy behind the anti-glare film. I was disappointed that even 3M expensive offering, at over £100 was the same. Luckily for me, I did not spend money on it, and instead opted to receive a sizeable sample from them.

The hunt continues.

PS. I even ran my iMac for a while with the bezel (and glass) removed, but it was still far from ideal. The computer is located in an attic study room, with four large roof windows. I've got blinds on two of them, closest the computer, and the other option will be to simply stick foil over the glass of the other two, in an attempt to reduce eye strain and reflections. They are driving me mad. But I type this message whilst looking at my pal's lovely EIZO display, which, as its designed for professionals, is matte, and its silly hood, while looking weird, does really work.

Yep - £85 cable required... and funny, Apple sell one.

Anyone know the life span of the 30 inch Cinema Display? They are circa 2007 so quite old already. Things to look out for etc.

That type of converts only goes up to 1920x1200. If you want 2560x1440/1600 you need an ACTIVE displayport -> dual link dvi adapter. Something like this : http://www.amazon.com/Dell-BIZLINK-Disp ... B003XYBA72

I have the exact same model and it works great. You can get a 2$ mini-dp to dp adater and daisy chain them.
