Wondered that myself for a while, but then one day, I clicked the mysterious spy-button not quite certain what I would be presented with. Since then, I have rarely visited the DT main page...

I made a few changes. If things look weird, refresh the page.
I've changed some things in the header and footer. If you can't find stuff or think it's all wrong, complain here so I can neatly ignore it all in one place. FAQ and The team have been moved to the footer (when you click on "deskthority" there). Also new in the footer are About deskthority, Contact and Privacy policy. The top right of the header now consists of things which change depending on whether you're a guest or logged in, while the bottom left always stays the same.
New in the header is Top topics, which is now out of beta. Top topics is now accurate except for the year view, which is almost accurate (but needs more historical data, this takes another couple of months). Also new in the header is Wiki.
I've also patched some small things such as increasing the max topic title length, which was set very conservatively in phpBB, from 60 to 70 characters.
If you changed the forum interface language from English to something else, there's now a subforum dedicated to these translations in case some stuff is missing or needs correcting: http://deskthority.net/forum-software-translations-f86/

Looks good! I'm going to have to change my muscle memory for where the Spy is (especially on iPad where I navigate graphically instead of my keyboard). And (was it Halvar who said this?) the Search seems a bit oddly placed, anywhere other than the top right corner where everyone's trained to find search functions these days. But other than that I like what you've done. The gradient shadows around elements like the search popup are pretty sweet.

Not sure about Search yet myself, but if I move it back it does break consistency. Unless I disable search for guests so it fits there as something which changes depending on logged-in status.

The animation speed is like someone turned off the Turbo button on my PC … wait, I don't have a Turbo button, 7bit does …
Also, the Search box has an arrow that points down to a flyout that opens above!

It's 600ms at the moment, I'll play with some other speeds.

I find the slow menu animation really annoying.
I often go back to old topics of mine by clicking "Your posts". With the recent changes to reach it, I have to scroll sideways (because I use two windows side by side on a 1920 wide screen and the action moved from the left to the right edge), then click, wait for the (reaallly) slow animation and then click again instead of just clicking.
By the way, something I miss here that I find on some other forums is a collection of a user's started topics. Not all posts - just the one entry per thread, where the user had started the thread.

Speaking of which: that setting still doesn't stick.xbb wrote: ↑Maybe I would move the search box in place of the button to enlarge the text (always visible)
Fin's feature request for a "Topics started by user" list is a good one. Useful for our own posts, but even more so for everyone else's! Sometimes I remember the user better than the topic, if it's been a long while. If you do dig down into that stuff, can I request a "Topics posted in by user" feature? Lists of every single post are a slog compared to simply the thread titles. (Maybe with a stat for how many posts the user made in that thread?)
Anyway, the new look's nice, but I'd like to see you go the extra step and make the menu title boxes merge, so that there's no gutter between "Members", "X new messages", and Username etc.

You can test it yourself if you know your way around your browser's development tools. Press 12. Click on the Select element icon (a magnifying glass in your Chrome). Click on Spy in the header. In the HTML overview, click on the links' parent LI if that wasn't selected in the first place. On the right, add rule 'float: left' to '#dashboard li'.

I used to use the "view your posts" a lot. If I don't login in for a period there I can see if I have to reply to someone. Now it's 2 click away. But I'll live with it.

I don't like the new button-arrangement!
Why not put the messages button where it originally was?

BTW: that "7bit triangle down" button just works for log-out, it does not redirect to User Control Panel etc.
Also: Except for Login/Logout, the stuff mostly needed should be in the bottom left of the header!
Spy and IRC can be moved back to the top left, because I never use these.

Users always prefer the last version. The developer's job is to make sure they can't have it!
