Thanks for spotting this!

I've changed those files (but did not yet upload them). If this would not have been caught, indeed SP would have produced the amount of row 1 1.5 units blanks in all colors as row 2 keys.

I did the colour matching for 7bit. RAS is a nice rich, but still very full red. It's not crimson or ruddy. Anyway, I think 5a is using the same colours. The wiki seems to say so.
Would you mind sharing your assessment of the whites used in 5/5a? I'm mainly concerned about the differences. I noticed that the HONEYB "white on grey" set uses a different white from the HONEYB "white on blue", for instance, and that bothers me since I intended to combine them.

Kindly allay (or confirm!) my fears. :?

If you haven't already, you may want to check the later pages of the Honey Sphericals Extras topic. This has quite a number of pictures of the caps in Round 4 SPH blue (WV white legends) photographed alongside caps in Round 5 black and grey (both with WFK white legends), by pyrelink, Muirium (extensively) and myself. This pic of revelant SP colour chips may also be helpful.

Ignoring all those pics and just looking at the Extras keys and colour chips I have in front of me (under 6200K fluorescent light), the WFK looks a purer white with a tinge of grey, while WV is a fair bit duller. On the keys, WV looks warmer and creamier, and WFK a bit sharper. However, the differences aren't huge. On the hashbang keys, I can't immediately spot the difference in the fairly thin lines - I have to study the cap to prove to myself they are different colours. The difference is more easily noticed on the ducks, having a larger area of white. Even then, while they are distinct when scrutinised, I don't think the difference is great enough to be distracting on concerning.

In the end, I think it's down to how picky you want to be (and perhaps the lighting conditions the keys will be seen in  if that's picky enough for you!). Being well aware of the differences, I would not hesitate to mix the keys with different whites.

IMO what you want to be more careful of are HONEY grey (GPA, darker and perhaps yellower) and SPH grey (GD, lighter and perhaps bluer). As the key body colours, these are more obviously different and prone to unfavourable mixes. I did propose a GD/GPA two tone set, but I don't think they're quite different enough for this to work.

You're very welcome, hope that wasn't too far away from what you wanted to hear!

I'd be interested to hear Mu's opinion too, having seen the original Honey caps themselves :o

The question from Data was on difference between the whites between the SPH and HONEY sets:

I'm trying to ask something further like "how close does WFK feel to the real Honey keys' white, and to you is that acceptably close to SPH's white legends for mixing the keys on the same board?"

Right. As I remember… ah to hell with it, let's dig out the pictures! The halogen and LED lights I have around here make my white HHKB look beige!

Here we go. This one is pretty accurate with my memory. Take a quick glance and decide for yourself.

Image

The white legends are different enough between HONEY (the ducks and hashbangs) and SPH (everything else) if you go looking for them. But it's not striking enough to see on first glance, unknowing. It really comes down to how much of a perfectionist you want to be. I like WFK better than the murky SPH (off-)white but I'd rather row 4 SHIF T keys (or even SHIFT keys!) than a SPH do-over for the legend colour. Perfectionism and Signature Plastics aren't a good match…

The greys are more noticeably different to me. But again they're far from stunningly different. You wouldn't want a HONEY/SPH Grey colourway for alphas and mods, or I don't anyway! They aren't sufficiently distinct.

It's weird to think that as soon as we got #! immortalized in plastic #! is essentially discontinued and will be deprecated at some point :/

I'd much rather SP sent out retired molds than the faulty crap they put in grabbags any day!

Anyway, I think the duck will become a novelty standard!

The hashbangs do look a half-shade brighter (if there is such a thing) in those photos, but the difference is really imperceptible unless you're looking for it. I'm not exactly worried about it anymore.

I think since the white difference only occurs on keys that have a completely different base color it won't matter. If anything, the WFK on GPA (HONEYB) will look "lighter" than the WV on BFP (SPH) because the former is contrasted against a grey tone instead of blue. Does that make sense? In other words the change in base color appears to simply be an optical illusion influencing the hue of the white legends instead of a true mismatch.

I'd prefer complete uniformity just to satisfy my OCD, but the WV/GD Round 4 combination doesn't have nearly as many options in Round 5a as the WFK/GPA combination so I have no alternative. The greys are different enough that it would definitely bother me if I mixed them.

Yeah, you got it Data. The legends look best of all on the black caps, simply because of the ultimate contrast with such a dark background. Facet's little peek of Round 5 (despite our expectations, so far ahead of actual Round 5…) really made me want my black caps! Those are going to be stunning.

Still peeved we never reached MOQ on RAS red though. The mystery remains.

Perhaps a question that was alredy answered several times: Inside the inter kit (DE,DK,NO,SE) is a row 4 "Y" but no row 2 "Z" in the wiki.
Any idea why this is missing?

Well observed! The row 4 "Z" rotated through 180 degrees makes a row 2 "Z": the row 2 and row 4 key shapes are exactly the same and are rotated to make the opposite, and the Z legend is also symmetrical so it works normally both ways around.

So if you have a row 4 "Z", you already have a row 2 "Z" too :)

The rotation of row 4 keys to make row 2 can be used for some interesting results!
