Yes, I know. These days, whenever I buy something, I calculate how many beam springs I could have bought instead. (...even though I already have far more keyboards than I'll ever need already)

That Sumo is interesting and certainly looks good for the price. I need a cheap dive watch. My SBGA083 is rated at 100 metres, but I don't think I want to risk diving too deep with it.

I had to look that up. Yes, possibly you are correct.

That's a nice clean aviator style. I like the fact that it has day & date. The only thing I miss on mine is day. (How the hell am I ever going to figure out what day it is now.)

And it's an exhibition back, too. Seriously, the SNK803/805/807/809 family is kinda amazing for what it is. (803 is beige, 805 is green, 807 is blue, 809 is black, with a color-matching nylon strap. I went for an 807 and replaced the strap immediately, because I like brown leather straps with blue faces.)

Made in Malaysia, and you get to regulate it yourself. But, really, at this price point, humans aren't touching it, I'd think, so who cares whether the robots are in Japan or Malaysia?

The Grand Seiko is a huge improvement over regular Seiko in every way - proportions, materials, bracelet, fitting, finishing, accuracy, etc.. Everything I disliked about my $400 (CAD) SARB033 is fixed in the SBGA083 - though it is 10X the price. Whether it's worth it depends on how much a perfectionist you are.

The Grand Seiko has practically nothing to do with other Seiko products. It's a so much higher quality product from A to Z and easily comparable to watches three four times as expensive.

I've never understood the allure of the SSK or M15 - and certainly not at the price they get. To me, they're just stunted "Model M junior". I'd much rather have a "Kishsaver", but even that I wouldn't pay more than $100 for.

No, when I think of keyboards I could have had, I always consider beam springs or rare, beautiful 70's keyboards I don't yet have. I'm running out of space for keyboards though - and this small watch takes up much less space than 40 beam springs would have.

like I always say, it´s all preference right? I do like the Model M. I just like the compact version of it more. M15 I do not need. I´ll take Model F in any form I can get. But like you the really old ones fascinate me the most. Yeah your GS takes up much less space but costs much more!

As much as I love my Kishsaver, the SSK is the better looking, more elegant keyboard. The Kishsaver is an amazing little hack, but it doesn't look quite as right, quite as *designed* as the SSK.

Full size Model Ms are the funny ones, to my eyes. Stretched SSKs!

I got this Orient Ray watch, and I'm totally amazed by the quality for the low price - only $135 US!! (..plus shipping, plus customs, plus rip-off exchange)

I'd read things about the cheapness of the bracelet, but it feels quite nice to me. It's certainly not as good as my Grand Seiko. The clasp is a little cheap, and the end pieces are not solid, but for the price it's perfectly fine. The watch keeps time well. The blue colour is very discrete. It mostly looks black except in bright light and even then the blue is subtle, not bright. My only complaint - the bezel is nearly impossible to turn when you have wet hands, ruining its function as a dive watch.

Overall though, it's a great watch. This satisfies my desire for a Rolex Submariner, but at 1/50 the price. (plus you get day/date without magnifier)

After two months owning this Orient Ray, I've got to say GET THIS WATCH! This is the single greatest watch for the price that I've ever owned. I still love my Grand Seiko, but the Orient Ray is an unbelievable deal at 1/20 the price.
