IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

Mine has Mitsumi miniature switches, but it can also have Futaba switches and Aristotle MX clones.

Chicony 5000 series can have nearly any kind of mechanical switch, Cherry MX, Futaba, Mitsumi, Aristotle MX clones, SMK, Monterey, Alps... the model number seem to mean absolutely nothing to identify as same number can have anything. Only way to know is to see under a keycap. It's really quite annoying.

EDIT: on second look, the Focus is actually a Focus FK-9000 KeyPro rebadged somehow as a 5001. Still a very nice keyboard though, should be lots of fun .

Cheers mate, but I'm quite specifically looking for a 5001 or a 9000. The 2001 is a cool-looking board though, especially the ones that still have the dust cover, and I hope I find one at the recycling centre or at the uni someday . The black version especially is an almost impossibly good-looking keyboard .

I don't have that keyboard anymore, but it was no rebadge. 5001 is printed on the case and on the label on the back. Yeah I know what the wiki shows, but that's what it is. It had nice complicated white alps. I bet 7bit would like it because it has lots of keys.

Well I already posted on r/mechmarket and no one was interested. I really want to sell these boards so I can get some REALLY old metal keyboards that look amazing. But I have to sell these first! Do you think GH would be a good place? Do marketplace threads about vintage boards make quick sells?

Ramnes, I’ve never seen that switch before, and I don’t think it’s documented on the wiki. Maybe take the rest of the keyboard apart to figure out what it is?

I've researched that one before and it has Fujitsu leaf spring switches if I remember it correctly.

Oldschool high-hat sphericals. My guess (written just before Nuum's post) is Fujitsu magnetic reed switches, no special knowledge, just based on the manufacturer:

Redmaus is right about the other board: definitely not a beamspring. Could be a nice vintage linear, though. Looks a bit Micro Switch / Hall effect to me.

Honestly I am not really any authority when it comes to the subtleties of Alps and the metric shit-tonne of Alps-inspired clones and copies that exist. I think in general though, genuine Alps switches are nicer. I have a few 4-tab clone boards and they seem to be really hit-and-miss in terms of general feel. The 'miss' ones seeming to be more prone to binding or be excessively resistant or tactile.

Honestly, of the NTC boards listed on that wiki page, I'd probably choose the 4-tab clone one last, but only because I haven't tried some of the others.
