Seems to be China exclusive at the moment based on hearsay from Chinese message boards
Comes with Cherry MX Blues, Brown, Black and Red
PCB mounted. Flat Profile keycaps
Price is at 399 RMB or 63USD. Not cheap if you compare these with G80-3000 in Europe, but bear in mind that G80-3000 goes for 100USD around Taobao

Yep, but it does look kinda nice... And kinda cheap, which isn't exactly unlike some Cherry boards cases...
Still, low-profile caps on MX? Could they be going for barely activating, so sort travel?

For some reason I've always liked low-profile keycaps, but there have never been any mechanical boards with them that didn't have awful switches (at least that I've seen, and ML I am looking at you).. I do agree that it doesn't look real, but if it is I hope I can get one.

It looks like some Dell OEM board... I guess then again that a more modern look may appeal to the mass market plebeians.

If this is indeed a real Cherry engineering sample they obviously *are* able to innovate (to some extend). Then why the f**k can't they just cut of the numpad from their G80 and build a more solid case?
And why do these switches seem to have a silver color?

Cherry can "innovate". They can make innovative crap very well, thank you very much.

They sell plenty of switches to keyboard manufactures, why should they bother to make expensive keyboards themselves?lal wrote:If this is indeed a real Cherry engineering sample they obviously *are* able to innovate (to some extend). I bet that prototype will get a record price in an auction ending in 20-25 years ...
ps: great to see those shitty key caps. I see a lot of customers showing up for Round 5 and 6.

G80-3800 is not a hoax nor a joke.
They will be released in November for the 1st batch in Cherry MX black switch only. At a later time other switches will be out as well.
And in the first quarter of 2012, an upgraded version of this keyboard will be out.
Stay tune.

i like this keyboard for what it CAN be, not for what it is. I see this as a perfect board for work use, where it's not going to stand out excessively, and might even be a candidate for getting approval for the company to purchase it on my behalf. the big benefit here is that it's not going to cost me a hundred dollars to jump into the board before mods, and it's still a quality piece of hardware.
it really wouldn't make sense to me at all if cherry didn't bring these across the water.
