Oh I understand that sentiment. I personally am not interested, but 50+ people bought them for $60 + shipping last year on GH so I figured some may be interested in this ... "discount"

That's one of my favourite differences between DT and GH right there. One price does not fit all. Even after a head injury, I don't find that figure remotely appealing either!

Also, someone offered $35 and it got accepted. I don't know if the seller will do that again though.

That's where you and I differ, Photekq. I value switches the way you do caps! Topre caps are just as good as Cherry's finest, far as I can tell, but their switches are worlds apart. Of course, each to their own. I'm not one who thinks there is a one size fits all answer to most anything. But those prices… they are so foreign to me. Sure, Topre's priced sky high as well, but at least they're new!

Disclaimer: no plans to buy a Topre numpad either. Honestly, I plain don't need one. And I prize the desk space.

It's all subjective at the end of the day. If you like MX switches I would highly recommend that numpad. It has all the features you could possibly need. It might be old, but it has more features than any Topre numpad. You won't find a NIB one like that for under $50 easily. EDIT : You won't find a used one for under $50 easily either.

Of course, if you're not a huge fan of MX.. Your money would be wasted even if the price is good!

Also, I know I go on about keycaps a lot, but I value switches and layout above all else. Beamspring is my favourite switch, but the layout and size is prohibitive. My next favourite is vintage Cherry MX browns. If I didn't like MX I wouldn't be collecting all these rare caps, trust me That said, I haven't tried 55g Topre or most alps yet. Maybe my opinion of MX will change when I get my 87u 55g shipped to me.

How much you are willing to spend for a numpad might also depend on whether you type numbers a lot. As a programmer, I don't. As a writer, I wouldn't. The only people I know who still do are businesspeople and some scientists.

Heh, fair enough. Vintage browns (which I haven't tried) sound like a closer match to 35g Topre than to big old 55g. I like both of those weights, 35g much more than I expected I would. Apparently the tactile swing is what draws me to Topre. I'm not too fussy about the specific weight. But I do like a little bit of flex, HHKB style, on bottoming out. Unsurprisingly, I like PCB mounted blacks better in the MX world too. Though a good bit too much flex there for my ideal!

And yes, beamspring: oh my. That's one we really need to get to grips and make customs for ourselves. What do you think about all those glorious ABS caps?

I cannot compare vintage browns to any other switch. They're magical. Unfortunately, they are ever so hard to find. The only keyboards with them are the MX5000s, the G80-1838HPU and apparently some of the older Kinesis keyboards, but I can't confirm that last one.

Even the slightly more modern G80-11801s don't cut it. They're nicer than modern browns, but they're no vintage. I'll call them 'old browns'.

I think the MX5000 is a perfect match for them, although I'm looking forward to trying them in an aluminium cased custom with a partial polycarbonate plate. I just need to get my hands on a donor board now

please count me out. I did a quick calculation and the shipping from US to me would be at least 30$ which would make it way to expensive (+import taxes). I would have bought it on impulse earlier, but, now, thinking for a bit, it's not that attractive anymore.

Those quick calculations have spared me a lot of pain in this hobby. Customs add up so very, very fast. You've basically got to double the price of everything when you see it's outside the EU. Unless you go out and get it in person.

Customs never seems to be a problem for me for some reason. Even with packages over $100 value I've never been charged.

The only time I can recall being charged is when I got two beamsprings for me and Andy, which had a value of around $200. I think we got charged about a tenner each. Not too bad.

There's a lot of chaos in the system, which bugs me in particular. I've been charged VAT+handling in excess of 100% an item's value on several occasions, like those 8 or so super expensive duck caps straight from SP. And big packages never fail, for me, to really get their eyes sparkling. Because then they can name their own price for the shipping you paid, which is also taxable. The Kishies were hit hard for that. Thankfully they underestimated the price we'd actually paid for the boards big time! If they got that right, it could have been hundreds of pounds.

Criminals. They even take weeks to get on with it. Perhaps they like to be real bastards to addresses in Scotland? I've no idea why my luck is so bad with them. But I do know I cheat my way around them every time I can now, and feel perfectly justified.
