How interesting! It is fascinating to learn the origins of these things...

If we were to review some of the less useful legends, and replace them with legends that might yield useful FUNCTIONality on a keyboard today, I would put the following up for consideration: FIRE, MAGIC, TURBO, DUCK, BEAK, SPH, MOQ, SHIP NOW, and 7BOT MODE. Though I realize that keys like DUCK and 7BOT MODE have special meaning to prominent members here, so I'm sure they'll remain on the manifest no matter what, which is fine.

The legends I can immediately think of that I'd put in as replacements are RENAME, REFRESH, SEARCH, CHECK, START, SAVE, MENU, and BOOT (all row 1, of course).

Sure, I was talking about vectors. It'd be funnier though if the hashbang errors had been caused by lossy compression...

There was some problem with the Inkscape export / Illustrator import that I couldn't get to the bottom of, where the files I sent would appear as a different size to SP. I played with Inkscape's settings in vain, assuming it was a scaling problem, but ultimately getting nowhere. It didn't really make any sense to me then, and it doesn't seem any better now. As SP repeatedly demonstrated the paths were intact, I didn't consider the possibility that Inkscape was saving raster graphics in the file.

I never tried Illustrator as there was a straightforward solution (SP fixing the size) and I had no other serious requirements for vector graphics.

I don't have DSA Dolch but I do have a double shot DSA shift key. The legend and the gap between F and T appear to be identical.

My biggest concern is that the font size used on the Dolch DSA shift keys is different than that used on the Round 5 SA shift keys, making the use of one as the basis for the other a very bad idea.

I've decided that what I'm going to do while I wait for some kind soul to scan a Round 5 shift key is scan one of my DSA Dolch shift keys and work on making replacements just for those (for now). In essence, the Dolch DSA shift keys will become the guinnea pig test subjects for this experiment. If that goes well, the process can then be applied to Round 5 shift keys. At least this way, during the inevitable iterative process this will involve, I can compare the new keys with the originals myself.

Erhem!

ALL keys in the FUNCTION kits are on request by some user. I've added 7BOT MODE because I want it. Others added other keys because they wanted them.
:o

The kit is full, no more keys can be added.

But you can suggest a 2nd kit (which would be called FUNCTION2).

I've made some little changes:

- All TKL and TKLBASE kits (except CADET) are now TENKLESS and TENKLESSBASE kits.
- I've added TKL kits (same as in Round 5).

Is there no row 2-4 kit for the punctuation keys missing from the ALPHAINT kits?

How does this affect existing orders and how they're named (edit: and priced)?

Just got an invoice showing that :D Thanks 7bit :D

on a side note, with all the additions, you're making it hard to finalize my order :p

Regarding new SHIFT legends

I am moving this discussion over to the Workshop area, where it won't clutter up this thread (and where it more properly belongs anyway).

7bit, you mentioned a while ago that you think you have 2.25u blank grey keys from round 5 leftovers.

Can you confirm that? That's kinda a big deal to me. If it's a huge hassle, don't bother. But i'd really like to know :(

I don't want to be stuck with a SHIF T key in my bottom row if i don't have to.

Fantastic. Can i add one to my order, will 7bot recognize it?

And rip in peace SHIF T

I bet Round 6 is still full of SHIF T. Saying a thing doesn't make a thing. And then there's the mysterious magic of SP…

User avatar

07 Sep 2015, 03:52

Yeah, I could theoretically create a "perfect" SHIFT legend digitally but if SP can't reproduce that in plastic with their machines, well all the determination and talent in the world won't help the cause.

If I've already paid my invoice and want to add something, is there anything special that I need to do?

Elk

07 Sep 2015, 04:12

Add something normally via the bot and you will receive a new invoice with the new total. You can then pay more or remove something else so your balance is at zero again, but I don't think you need your balance to be fully paid at the moment (more like 80% if I understand correctly). Also, it seems the more your balance approaches zero, the less chance of suffering price increases you have.

I keep hoping there are a ton of blanks at the bottom of one of 7bit's remaining boxes o' caps. I want a full set of Round 5 blanks so badly...

Just add more stuff, the same way you did before. But you don't need to submit your ADDRESS or e-mail again.
:-)

BTW: There is some conceptual bug in the bot's script:
:o

If you got free insured shipping because your order was so large, but ordered the SHIPINSURED kit for free, the bot added that kit to the shipped items list and not is charging you the amount the SHIPINSURED costs if you did not order that much. The reason is that the bot only calculated the weight of your un-shipped order.

However, I've thrown out those kits for people who got free insured shipping.

Nice!!

Is the black (rather than white) colour intentional for the HONEYB/175(S)/CADET? The /CADET Rub Out that it replaces is white-on-blue. And if it is black it will no longer be symmetric with the white-on-blue return key. So I think it would be better in white-on-blue instead.

These are going to be great once we get a matching graphic for Insert and Delete:

But then I look at all the colours, know I need all the colours, and run the math… urrrrgh.
