It's a good job that keyboard's missing a switch, otherwise it would look like it could have Nixdorf blacks..

Notice how there's a white plate with an empty switch hole showing.. If it had MX switches it would be PCB mount.

I've been watching that 1970's HP Terminal keyboard for a while, I might get it. Unsure.

Looks more like the original spacebar is missing and got replaced, in a way.

Yes there must be something wrong with the spacebar, even if it's just a missing stabilizer. And it's missing the little flap on the top left.

Everyone's inviting offers these days. What's up with Ebay? Don't they know you're supposed to either auction starting from zero, or some ludicrous price you'll never achieve? That's the pattern I've always seen before.

Regarding the HP terminal: I've played with one of those in person. The caps are a rare example of Helvetica on sphericals. The switches aren't up to much, though. Random ass linear, as was the style at the time.

I think most of the keyboard swtiches from that era are linear, but there are big differences in quality and feel as you know. Do you remember what kind of switch it had?

Amazing how quickly the price for the "standard" Ms has risen. I remember 2-3 years ago when they could be had starting around 20€, dirty, and topping out at 50-60 for NIB.
And that's not even considering those cases where the seller had no idea what they had on their hands.
I can only imagine what it was like 5-10 years ago :)

I feel that this increase in prices may be a bubble waiting to burst, especially since Ms are not rare at all.

Ellipse is doing his best to increase supply. But Ellipse is still Ellipse…

Image

As for Model Ms, sure there's a good supply out there but forgetting about Unicomp (which is probably wise) it's a static supply that doesn't get bigger, while the Model M's outsized reputation, meanwhile, grows and grows. I don't see cause for a big price drop. The more people want Model Ms, the more they will be worth. What needs to fail is demand.

Artisan caps are a whole different story. Almost everyone who buys them is a speculator, expecting to sell at a wildly higher price later on. Those douchebags all sell simultaneously the moment they sense the market dip, which causes the kind of bubble burst you describe.

My Kishsaver here isn't going anywhere. And that's fine by me!

Model M is like the reference for mechanical keyboards to the average unknowledgeable person. They have no idea that the ancestors are much nicer. Hopefully it will stay that way. Artisan caps? Talk about expensive accessorising if I can get several keyboards for the price of one of those? WTF?

Looks like that Dell AT-101 I picked up has an AT connector. It seems like most of these, even the old Salmon Alps kind, tend to have PS/2 connectors. This one must be quite the old one!

Ever find yourself in that moment where you can't bring yourself to harvest a keyboard for parts even though that's why you originally purchased it? The Dell caps are on my Infinity at the moment, but I intend on putting them back on the AT101. It's just nice to type on quality PBT for now, but I feel so bad keeping the board naked, haha.

The Dell is definitely going to get a nice restoration. I don't know if I'm going to go full out and desolder the switches to sand down the plate and repaint it like I did on my Fame, but I will clean her up and retrobright her. :3 I was also surprised to see how good of a condition the cable was in. No warped coils at all.

Image

The cherry on top of my FAME board is the SAMSUNG sticker, since I love Samsung these days. It's nice to have a classic sticker on the board. It actually came off of a Chicony 5161 with blue alps that another user had sourced switches from, but they were really cool when I asked for the sticker. I thought that, since the 5161 and FAME bear such a resemblance, it'd be a nice touch.

Blaise170 might recall the sticker!

Anyway, sorry for the tangent. This was mainly about how the AT101 has an AT connector. I know it's probably not unheard of, but it definitely seems like they are quite rare to see.

Also, has anyone seen a Fame GOG3YLTH-5539 that looks like mine (it's got true blue alps and a metal bottom)? I have been trying to look all over to see if there's any more accounts for one, but I keep finding a much smaller model that doesn't have the big foot design.

I did put Tai Hao Olivette on it, just FYI if it wasn't obvious. :P Not all the keys fit. Not sure what I will ultimately put on the board, but I thought that since FAME was a Tai Hao brand, it fit. The original caps were ugly pad printed caps.

That Dell AT-101 is worth keeping and restoring! It's the nicer older version, not sure if I've ever seen one with an DIN connector. Nice.

Will do! :D Have you seen the Fame keyboard at all? I feel silly asking, because of course you'd mention it if you have. xD But just to be sure. I'm trying to find any information I can.

And wow! That AEKII is in amazing condition. I always keep noticing nice Alps boards go for pennies on ebay.de. It blows my mind.

Hmm I suspect you are trying to tell us (me) something with your infinite wisdom? Are we going to discuss the essence of this thread again?

Sorry if my links are sub-shit. There is just not enough good stuff overall. Post a post for posting sake. :evilgeek:
