Anyone deciding to open on Festivus should have to observe Festivus. Hope the Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength go down well with your family, XMIT. No opening your present until your youngest daughter pins you!

These are daily occurrences in my house. Festivus is special in that we bring out the pole.JanitorJoe wrote: ↑...the Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength...

1+ posts kbdfr! Particularly your last graphical one. Very impressive work.

It's the effort that counts! Sure, a little more grumpy irony would probably only improve it.

When you open up all your other packages! That's the fun, getting a present from a stranger from the internet (oh, that sounds nice, that's what I am going to write on it...).XMIT wrote: ↑Speaking of which, when are we opening our gifts?

Right they all should be opened at the same time, of course that will not really be practical due to different time zones.

On the same time? I thought like whenever everyone is opening all the other packages not from strangers from the internet

Well how about on Christmas evening, or morning or whenever you open your presents. Around the same time, or at least on the same day.
Of course I don't know how many other packages not from strangers from the internet you get Madhias?!?

I'm going to sneak down the stairs at night and open it sooner.

So if my Santa ships to my Scotland address (I supplied the bot both), and it arrives here before I leave for America in December, I'm supposed to put that box, unopened, into my luggage? That would be an interesting declaration!
"Uh, I don't know what's inside. I didn't pack it. And I don't know who did."
<awkward pause>
"It's a surprise!"

Here are the rules(which I will not change!):webwit wrote: ↑I'm going to sneak down the stairs at night and open it sooner.
As I understand, you can't celebrate Sinterklaas because the swarte Piet is a racist figure and therefore you have to wait until the evening of 24th December.7bit wrote: Opening of packages at 24/25th December only!* **

*) People who celebrate Sinterklaas, on 5/6th December
**) People who still use the Julian calendar, on 7th January, Gregorian calendar.

I've had my experiences with the TSA, and that's NOT a good idea. You'll have to open it when you get back.Muirium wrote: ↑So if my Santa ships to my Scotland address (I supplied the bot both), and it arrives here before I leave for America in December, I'm supposed to put that box, unopened, into my luggage? I believe there might also be other variations on Christmas customs 7bit, so you will have to adapt your Permutationmatrix to calculate those new variables. But I do like your new rules.7bit wrote: ↑Here are the rules(which I will not change!):webwit wrote: ↑I'm going to sneak down the stairs at night and open it sooner. As I understand, you can't celebrate Sinterklaas because the swarte Piet is a racist figure and therefore you have to wait until the evening of 24th December.7bit wrote: Opening of packages at 24/25th December only!* **

My choice is either open it in December, soon before I leave, and maybe take it with me. Or open it in February, when I'm finally back. Christmas opening is possible if it winds up in America direct, without my involvement. But I think the American Santas have all been lumbered with European addresses, so I guess not!
@Webwit: I'm still seeing the Secret Santa banner on the forum spy. A bit late for new signups now!

Interesting variant: setting new rules, pretending they are not new and claiming they won't be changed7bit wrote: ↑[…] Here are the rules(which I will not change!):7bit wrote: Opening of packages at 24/25th December only!* **

whoever gets my present, open it right away, there might be food that it's better to consume earlier rather than later (*might be* because I don't know yet I'm going today to buy some italian delicatessens)

Good point. As a bearer of that power myself, I try not to misuse it as flagrantly as 7bit does from time to time. Difficult to know where to draw the line, implementation-wise. It's a judgement call that we mods alone have to make. And I find his choices questionable!kbdfr wrote: ↑I know it's the wrong thread for that,
but shouldn't the moderator's ability to edit posts without an "edit stamp" be restricted to spammers and the like?
Predictably, I must admit…

If it's coming to me, I give you permission to tell me secretly. I wouldn't even know for sure, what with those caps you're already sending me back.
