Dunno what switches, but the PCB on the first one lines up with sideways MX switches and the second one has the article number UB80. I searched up UB80 and found a different model with MX Blacks, which lines up with the article numbers (80 = MX).

Exactly. MX didn't exist yet!

Expect these guys:

Looks MX compatible. But these are way bigger!

No they won't be MX, just saying what I can see.mr_a500 wrote: ↑They're definitely not MX, which didn't come out until 1983. They're probably M7 or M8.

Right - not M8. I was thinking of the other Cherry switch that was similar to M7. (whatever the hell it was)
I think I'll try to get one of the PCB ones. It looks like an Apple II replacement keyboard - and I've got an Apple II that might look good in black. Thanks for the links, lolpes!

That has been discussed here before.Muirium wrote: ↑Hmm… those numbers have me thinking. Does the X in MX stand for 10?
Daniel Beardsmore wrote: ↑You probably missed the busting of my theory that MX means M10, since we now have proof of M11 and a strong case to believe in a similar M10 switch. So now we have: M5?, M6, M7, M8, M9, M10, M11, MX …

Ah well. I'm disappointed to be wrong. But far from surprised I wasn't first. It's a perfectly simple idea. Pity it didn't also come to Cherry…

Instead Cherry is calling their most recent switch "MX RGB Nature White". Is that THE worst name ever? I think so.

Knowing MY, I'm not overly impatient about MZ.Halvar wrote: ↑In any case, as MX came out in 1983 and MY in 1987, we have been waiting pretty long for MZ.

Bueatiful! Definitely a board with character . I've found my Salmon AT101 to have rather heavy switches, but I'd have love to have kept it if it hadn't been broken beyond salvation. Very nice project, well done!E3Eves wrote: ↑*lots of stuff*

Show off. I'm on my IBM XT right now which renders me snailish slow but damn these switches are fine and loud as hell.Muirium wrote: ↑Sometimes I wonder: am I just the fastest typist around here? Surely not. I never even touch 100 wpm.

I just figured out what you meant, this was from the vintage computing category, not all of eBay, sorry if there was confusion.

Heh they feel so great but the layout on my XT basically makes me useless as a typist.seebart wrote: ↑Show off. I'm on my IBM XT right now which renders me snailish slow but damn these switches are fine and loud as hell.

Hey, the XT was my first mech. It's a great board. Quirky, but efficient as hell if you fall for its switches hard enough to make the effort to adapt to it. (Remapping mods via Soarer's Converter highly recommended.)
Of course, there's another Model F a little higher in my rotation:

Honestly I'll probably end up selling my XT at some point because it's so hard to use for me. Plus the spacebar is just too heavy.

Might as well. There's always demand for Model F. Well, okay, more over here in Europe where there's less supply. Seeing as you're in America, keep your eyes peeled for an AT. That's a configurable board!

The spacebar on the XT and AT can be unweighted a bit. I haven't tried it, but there are ways. My Kishsaver here has a spacebar that's about the same weight as on a Model M. Same length too: a much more sensible 7 units. Feels just right to me.

True that is heavier that a Model M spacer bar, but with practice this prevents from bottoming out (at least in my experience )Blaise170 wrote: ↑Honestly I'll probably end up selling my XT at some point because it's so hard to use for me. Plus the spacebar is just too heavy.
