I'd like APL characters this time round, pretty please!
The APL union layout would be in keeping with a retro feel and would be eminently usable by me for real APL programming, not just looking pretty!
Or the VAX/VMS APL layout http://lakesdev.blogspot.co.uk/2009/09/ ... board.html:
Or more contemporary the Dyalog APL layout:

I try front printing (if affordable) this time, so might be possible to do real APL this time.
Which is your preferred APL layout, BTW?
edit:
They are all different from the Space Cadet layout.
This would mean at least 33 new legends ($1650) plus the front printing ($$?).

There are two main variants of APL in general purpose use at the moment: IBM APL/2 and Dyalog APL. They have a different key layout. Given that the Dyalog variant has an education programme, non-commercial licenses and provide a free version for the Raspberry Pi I'd very heavily slant towards that layout being the most practical layout.
For a completely retro version then the Union layout (top image in my previous post) was the traditional layout used by the original implementations of APL.
For the gory details of Dyalog's layouts: https://dfns.dyalog.com/n_keyboards.htm
and for the full effect note in the above page: 'It may be attractive to place box-drawing characters on the numeric keypad'

Did the whole voting with new accounts situation get resolved? If not, no need for suspicion of what will soon be 50+ votes for Hell of Kitten, it must be what the people want.

I'm still hoping for PBT clones of IBM Selectric and/or beam spring high-profile spherical keys, with an MX mount. Dye sublimated would be good. Double shot would be great.
If you make such a key color becomes almost secondary.
Failing that - how about something like SA Dolch?

I've asked SP about Alps sphericals and they told me they don't want to.
Maybe later ...
I think we should find some other manufacturer. The tools SP has made for my group buys (and pleasantly uses for all subsequent buys (OK, why not ) and commercial productions ( ) ) where not that expansive.
All we need to find, is a manufacturer who is willing to produce what we want.
BTW:
Wasn't there someone in China doing Cherry keycap clones?

All we need are 1, 1.25. 1.5 and 1.75 units, plus 1 or 2 space bars (7 and 8 or whatever units).
For a start, 1u and the 7 units space bar are enough!
Find me the manufacturer that does it (SP sadly not) and it will happen (same for Alps)!

I don't think 7bit will ever do a Dolch SA. For one thing, his Honeywell "graphite" colorway is probably close enough for his tastes. Plus, I don't know if anyone other than me and a few others love Dolch enough to want it in yet another profile. I think a Dolch SA set needs to be its own group buy, run by someone else (I think it would be an excellent candidate for PMK).

7bit, what about Matt's beamspring cap project? Could that include Alps?
This interest check looks like the one for Round 4. Will it lead to multiple colourways in Round 7 I wonder?
For what it's worth (i.e. nothing): (NN, TEA, YCF, VCS, RA, RCJ, BBJ)
Alphanum TEA on NN
Mods YCF on NN
Shift VCS on NN
Control RA on NN
Alt RCJ on NN
Win and Caps BBJ on NN

I think voters should be aware that my cream/biege suggestions (including the Codemasters) will really only look good on biege/brown keyboard cases, which nobody makes anymore. I honestly believe that the primary reason these colorways look good in my renders is because I deliberately created biege/bronze colored cases to show them off. Those colorways won't look nearly as good on white or black keyboards, at least IMO.

Exactly. Quit cheating and render them on the keyboards that buyers are more likely to have. Vile brand monstrosities with leaking backlights!

There used to be a Dolch spherical group buy. I don't have a link to it, but I got some keys in the grab bags that prove it!zslane wrote: ↑I don't think 7bit will ever do a Dolch SA. We don't need beamspring caps, we need buckling spring caps (for those model F keyboards with iron cases)!facetsesame wrote: ↑7bit, what about Matt's beamspring cap project? Could that include Alps?
No, it will only be one colorway.facetsesame wrote: ↑This interest check looks like the one for Round 4. Will it lead to multiple colourways in Round 7 I wonder?
