This keyboard is really an attention whore. But soon I will use it again!

Image

The Leeku 1800 PCB, which is very nice - and I like to touch it all the time!

Image

I have to write something sometimes about the keyboard I won at the DT awards - I use it since I got it at work on a daily basis, I like it. The MX Browns are nice, and the sound is satisfying.

Almost whites, ANSI-ISO in-between, for a convenient default Vim mapleader :)

Unfortunately, when mounting the caps, I realised that I don't have a single 6u spacebar. The quick fix was to remove the stab and mount a 7u on two switches . Pretty terrible tbh, but then the keyboard is ISO so it wouldn't get much use in it's current form anyway.

Fortunately I've got this:

Now that I finally have the case, the PCB, the switches and the keycaps, the only thing I lack is time...

Wild guess says they're JTK Stormtrooper (or you know just black on white).

thanks @lolpes! Still prefering my GMK/Cherry Corp. doubleshots over the PBT dyesubs though :/ (the only thing I love on pbts is the thicker sound they make, on the other hand it feels much worse...caps are more harsh and even the switch press seems more sandy)

lolpes

08 Feb 2016, 10:38

That feel is exactly why I like pbt more than ABS, which feels more slippery to me xD The sound is better also imo, but the roughness of the surface on the pbt caps makes me type much more accurate :P Hence why I switches to pbt cherry caps xD

I feel the contrary, ABS gives me extra grip over PBT (don't know if it's because I normally have sweaty hands).
I mean, the PBT caps feel way more dry/harsh and it isn't their texture that gives me more grip... my fingers just doesn't get attached so well in caps and "dance" more :( I wouldn't call this is more slippery, but I honestly feel less control than with ABS doubleshots (for me the definition of slippery caps are the POMs!) ABS doubleshots also give a more "organic" typing experience, in my opinion ;)

lolpes

08 Feb 2016, 11:15

I don't have much experience with POM caps, but for me the most slippery are the SA caps, but this is good since the contour makes it so that my finger slip to the centre of the cap :p

I agree with lolpes here, I find that worn Cherry doubleshot ABS are a bit slippery for me. New or NIB doubleshots are much better though. That's one good thing about the dyesubs too - less chance they'll wear.

Playing with the #1 in my current rotation, my G80-1800 with doubleshot ISO-UK keycaps from a G80-3000, 62g stickered ergo clears, and the extra-high F-row caps taken from my all-metal mystery Triumph Adler board:

Didn't even think you can do this. Thanks man! Now my 11900 has a nicer spacebar. I even cutoff the contact point on the right alt switch so its kinda functioning, but man its a really stiff spacebar!

Yeah, the spacebar gets really quite stiff and you better not hit it on the left :). Glad my dirty bodge helped someone!

Nice one, love the 1800's. Those F keys look pretty cool, what's the symbol on the Esc key?

It's just an A inside a circle... no idea what it means! There were B and C too. I posted the full keyboard over in the price check thread.

Today I had some time to build this beauty again. Hammer style alu case, blue faceW PCB, blue acrylic plate, vintage blacks (would have loved some nixies... had to be away exactly when those boards were available....) , Charred Orange keycaps and Candy Corn CC . Acrylic plates are amazing, they silence the switch and give a soft feeling, way better than alu plates.

Very nice, just needs an orange cable ;).

I'd like to try an acrylic plate actually, I've got a carbon fibre one on the way which I'm looking forward to. I went away from plate mounted boards for a while and I think I still prefer PCB mount but I'm always willing to try something new.
