Thise are not cherry MX switches
I did not take a closer look. You're right. Some older cherry switches then?

Yeah, I'm sorry. It is too early in the morning here. But they seem to be some Cherry switch model, if you take a look at one the photos, one can read a faint "Cherry":

Anyways, I'm going to edit the original post to "mysterious mechanical switches" until some experts in older switches come up with the exact model.

Cherry M9. Took all of ten minutes - intermittent breaks included - to find this on the wiki, just flipping through the Cherry switches category page 'till I found a match. From a quick Google search for "Cherry M9" and an r/mk thread, the stems are too big to work with modern Cherry MX caps.

Looking this up was clearly a challenging feat.

Dudes, I'm sorry, alright? I made a mistake, I accept that. I'll try no to repeat it and I'll do my homework next time.

That's bad information though, they are compatible with MX caps without any problem. A lot of people here can confirm because 7bit has been sending one of these as a sample with every order for some time.

Interesting that it's not recorded on the Wiki, then. I've added the relevant information; you can edit it further if you like, of course.

Nice list as always, thanks seebart.
Shame that lot of 5 Cherrys is the common, MX Black variant. A few blue or clear switches on the cheap would've been a nice deal. Interesting that he has 4 moderately old logo variants and one with the new logo! (for collectors or whoever else cares)

As for the Novatouch, for those from Austria or Germany seeking an ISO layout one, this is probably a better deal:

Can we expect another $420 board with this one finally going to auction?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-KB101AS-Bl ... 1943444691

The main difference between the KB101A and the KB101AS is that the AS comes with what I think are Alps-made doubleshot ABS caps.

The KB101A comes with dyesubbed ABS caps (that's the easiest way to describe them) that aren't as thick.

These are also the only doubleshot ABS caps I've seen for Alps that have deep scoops like that.

Has anyone seen my Tai Hao post? I think the Tai Hao quality is very good and we should be paying more attention to it.

We could get way more alps doubleshots at a fixed and cheap rate.

Price/quality ratio is good. My problem with Tai Hao is ugly legends and a fixed layout, no special caps for alternative layouts. I'd rather pay more for a comprehensive DCS set.

Crap. :(

Am I the only one that uses a layout with the context menu key that is on many modern computers? The ABS M1 has it and I quite like the layout. I actually love the legends but that is just me.

I love vintage Tai Hao caps, and they did come in 7u layouts. I wonder why they don't include that layout with their modern sets, since they produced so many varied layouts for Focus boards and the Omnikeys and so on.

Image

I mean, just look at these Hebrew caps. The normal legends look just dandy imo, the alternative legends are pad printed but very tough, and of course, we have a 7u layout too.

If we look at boards like the APC TH-5539, which is an awful board, but usually has nice caps (it's where I got the Hebrew caps, actually). The standard US APC TH-5539 comes with some really cool multicolored legends in places.

Image

Very colorful modifiers, multi-colored arrow cluster. Just really awesome caps.

I'd love if we could get some cool things like this done and then some.

Can't we start a group petition/GB for it then? I mean just take a look at my thread. The keyset I linked could be easily made into an alps set. They already have the molds. All they need to do is swap the colors. I think.

If JTK was willing and able to create Alps moulds we'd be set. I imagine this has been addressed already, it probably isn't worth the investment for them.

Right, I was asking you about how the APC Teal switches feel "bad". I have not tried either.

User avatar

22 Mar 2016, 01:21

Oh i see oops, not sure if it was just the batch that came with my RK-6000 but they have the most wobble than any other clones ive tried and they all click unevenly(possibly because of the wobble) Depending on if you hit the key directly or off center the switches sometimes wont click. They also have a really high pitched click that reminds me of MX Blues. I much prefer Matias click switches or XM switches over the APC Teal switches.

It's also worth noting that the KB101A doesn't have NKRO.
