Maybe because the shipping is three times the cost of the board, not counting import taxes which could double the whole figure again? :pmr_a500 wrote: ↑I'm still amazed that people aren't buying these. That looks quite sweet with the black keys.mr_a500 wrote: ↑Here's mine:
I put TRS-80 Model III keycaps on it because I prefer black keys. I love it and it's one of my favourite linear keyboards, but the ping annoys me a bit. Also, the plastic smell is a bit weird. I still need to convert it. I've got a Teensy set aside for it.

That was the Asian new keyboard smell. I recognized that funk, lol. But it was still a new keyboard smell.

Did you figure it out?faycheung wrote: ↑Yeah I wasn't sure how to wire up the Teensy as Soarer only gave a simple pic that didn't show much. I went digging on GH and I've taken a look at his full explanation, thanks.
Forgive my ignorance, I couldn't figure out how the wiring works... The rs 232 diagrams I could look up all differed from the diagrams that came with the converter.

The shipping is a million billion. So overall it still costs a million billion which isn't cheap.mr_a500 wrote: ↑I'm still amazed that people aren't buying these. I consider this to be the #1 NOS vintage keyboard to buy for value. ($35 Cortron/Licon hall effect keyboard is #2)

Yeah, shipping to EU is more than twice the price of the board...and then customs on top of that...reaches about $100. I've been on the edge a while now...

Yes shipping + tax was more than the actual keyboard, kinda crazy. But I made an exception because it was NIB. No regrets on this one.

Sure, shipping is "normal" for you. It's really nice, needs to be converted of course.keycap wrote: ↑It costs under $15 for me, I think I should buy it

Has anyone done some work to make these quieter, less "ping"-y? Perhaps putting some sort of anti-static foam in the case? The ringing of springs when typing makes this otherwise remarkable keyboard unusable for me.

Yes the "ping" noise is certainly present, keycap you and everyone else should be aware of this before you buy it. Personally it does not bother me as much as on my NEC APC-H412 where it's insane, but it is also present on this keyboard. There must be a way to at least reduce it with foam or something similair XMIT, I'll have to try out some different materials.

Depending on how much work you want to do the first things I'd try are to pack the empty space in the case with anti-static foam, to "floss mod" the springs, and to lubricate the springs. Those should all help.seebart wrote: ↑There must be a way to at least reduce it with foam or something similar XMIT

Yeah I'll start by packing the empty space in the case with anti-static foam, not that much work really. I really don't want to mod it since mine still is newish.

Sorry for the minor necrosis, but have you or anyone else helped mitigate the pinging issues on this particular board?seebart wrote: ↑Yeah I'll start by packing the empty space in the case with anti-static foam, not that much work really. I really don't want to mod it since mine still is newish.

Sorry I have not gotten around to it. I don't use my NEC that often although apart from the ping it's really nice. I assume your talking about the IBM Alps SKCC though right?
