Thanks to a bout of insomnia, I did a test for something I was suspecting with a couple of these keyboards. I took an IBM PC XT keyboard and plugged it into an IBM PC AT. The XT keyboard exhibited the beeping behaviour as described. Needless to say, I just bought the lot fully suspecting that the xT keyboards work fine.

Good for you snuci! If they'd been offered in the EU, I'd have jumped all over it myself.

Haata posted about this board here: photos-f62/ugc-74-keyboard-t8749.html

It previously didn't sell at auction with a £50 starting price.

That's a serious piece of hardware, the seller might want to mention the weight of that puppy. :o

He's charging a £26 shipping fee (within the UK), so I can only imagine :D.

Anyone know based on S/N alone if this has Salmon or Orange Alps switches?

I'm not sure if one can tell by the serial number. Look at our M0115 wiki page, there's one with a serial nunmber that's almost double that which has SKCM Salmon which succeed SKCM Orange. You could probably tell if you had the production year of that M0115. The M0115 is still on my want list, they are rather rare around here.

My experience is that serial numbers >500K have been salmon and <500K have been orange, out of roughly 1M, but that is by no means scientific and based on perhaps half a dozen samples.

Thx seebart/fohat. That helps me out. I had suspected that anything under ~ 400K was orange and over was Salmon. Trying to track down one with oranges. I'm currently typing a good condition one I snagged for $30 shipped, and I love it.

A Displaywriter SSK, neat, but I think that's the only thing that really justifies the price.. That one "replacement" key is actually missing a key cap, pretty unfortunate.

Yeah, the fact that you can't easily find replacement keycaps with DisplayWriter legends makes it not really worth his asking price IMO. I could see myself making an offer for it if it were in the EU, but only because I think I have a source for that key ;)

Pretty decent price...the good news is that the missing key is not exclusive to that SSK, and it's looks like it's in decent condition (hopefully). If you can complete it, you'll own one of the few that I know of...just don't do something crazy and bolt mod/usb mod it and take away from the original working parts!

Well, the missing key isn't a regular F8 either. You'll find it on this SSK model (1392464), and the fullsize Model M DisplayWriter (1394618 and I think 1394619 as well). There's one 1394618 available for on eBay right now (I bought the other one), but it's $80 :-O

As for sourcing the missing F8 key, if anyone is interested in buying this and completing it, you should talk to JimByr over at GH, he has a bunch of spare DisplayWriter legend keys and and I believe he has the F8.
