They're very definitely clones, one that doesn't appear to have been documented yet. Looks like KSB-N but doesn't appear to have been made by Xiang Min, Hua-Jie or Tai-Hao; also doesn't appear to conform to any alps.tw type switch.

I have 3 SSKs at the moment, and I probably need only two at most.

Just wondering, how much is an SSK in Europe worth?
I have two IBMs and one Lexmark. Late 80s (IBMs) and early 90s (Lexmark).

Are the newer or the older ones more desirable?
Bolt-mod or stock?
Are people more interested in ANSI or ISO?

The two IBMs are bolt-modded and can be sold in ANSI or ISO.

I'm no expert (at all), but I've been looking at SSKs a lot lately, and it seems the rule of thumb for SSKs is $200-$250 whether they are in the US or EU.

A bolt-modded SSK should fetch $250 no problem, and I wouldn't be surprised if it could fetch $300 or even $350 on a good eBay day. I doubt the age matters a whole lot, but Lexmark manufacture may reduce the perceived value for some buyers.

As for ANSI versus ISO, that's the real question. If you can do the conversion for the buyer, I would just specify that in the listing, since I'm sure there are specific buyers for both; a buyer who wants to put localized keycaps on it will need ISO, but ANSI is probably more difficult to find in the EU which means buyers looking for that may be willing to pay a premium to have it without the fuss of converting it themselves.

Either way, I'm thinking there are more than a few people on DT who would make you an offer right now for a bolt-modded SSK. Wait by your inbox ;)

I just got a 1993 Lexmark built SSK from a seller that originally got three of them, and he first sold the IBM ones (1987 and 1991), so they might sell faster if not for greater price.

Edit: Just saw the username and realised you know everything about it :)

Personally, I value IBM SSKs a bit more because of the difference in weight.

Thanks for your insight.
I am probably going to try selling in € as I live in the Euro zone.
Not sure about eBay, your stuff can reach ridiculous prices there but then you have to give them the fees.
Then again, it's probably one of the safest ways, and it will sell 100%....

The thing about ISO is the keycaps, the buyer for ISO would have to pay me significantly more to get an SSK with ISO keycaps as I need to slaughter ISO model Ms for that, which are worth about 50€ each as long as I don't find a completely broken M with keycaps.
I don't think anyone will be converting a stock ISO SSK to ANSI, as ISOs are incredibly rare.
There are many enthusiasts in Europe who use ANSI layouts. Then again, there may be a few that pay more just to have an ISO SSK. I certainly would've paid more for that.

True, I know which deal you are talking about.

Luckily, I prefer the snappier feel and blue logo of the Lexmark variant, so I'll probably keep that one since it's not worth as much as the IBMs anyway.

True. But I suspect that would be pretty hard to find here. And the price is a bit much for a (not-so-great I've been told) rubber-dome, even if rare one.

You'll have to decide whether it's worth it for you, but I can tell you what I see in the picture.

The front one is a 102-key Model M (or rubberdome ). If it's an ISO M in, from the looks of it, Italian layout, it could be worth the money if that's what you're after. If rubber dome, unfortunately rather useless. The second one is an M122, which due to their poor roll over are less sought after than their 102-key counter parts and therefore significantly cheaper. I don't know what all those bananas are, but since Model M cases are made out of PVC, which doesn't yellow, I would say they are some sort of an M122 layout clone and not IBMs. The black one is a rubber dome. I tried one of those a while back, and it wasn't horrible. But it wasn't good either.

What it boils down to then is; would you consider 115 euro a good price for what could be two Ms?

FWIW I don't think the M has an Italian layout, since "M" is in the bottom alpha row.

[offtopic]
Since we touched on the topic of rubberdome Ms, did anyone ever figure out what to do with it's keycaps? I have a nice set that, and I cut the middle leg of one key, but it seems too tricky to get the spring recess just right.

Thanks for this. No I think it is not worth it.

Yes that is an Italian layout, please remember that Italian layout does have the letter M in that position: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/ ... tV/$_1.JPG
