OshPark only does ENIG (gold) on purple. PCBWay can do ENIG and/or lead free HASL (silver) on black - could probably get mix of ENIG and HASL. I really need to spend some time to draw up the SSK size badge so that you can order both and combine shipping. That would give you 4 options - 101 silver, 101 gold, SSK silver, SSK gold.

I said that I'm in for six, but I would prefer much more six silver on black SSK badges than anything else!
Edit: I'd also be in for gold on red, which seems possible on PCBWay. Looks like I just want the SSK format and anything else than purple, actually.

Go ahead and do that if you like wcass, in that case this will have to run week(s) longer before any order depending how fast you are! There are no SSK badges to order at this point ramnes!

OK thanks but I will have to check the actual price for all of this, I hope wcass will help me as he was nice to do all along. Also I will have to clear everyboby up on this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have to pay 19% German customs tax on any goods imported from outside the EU that exceed a value of 22 Euros which our badges do. Once we all have decided on what the order should be and what the cost is I will post a € / $ quote before we order!

Measurements can be tricky. Always specify exactly where the measurement was taken.alh84001 wrote: ↑I just measured the recessed area and it is a bit bigger for me - 22.2mm x 15.5mm (it is grey label SSK but I doubt it makes a difference)
There is the exact size of the thing itself, and the size of the socket that it fits into, which is slightly larger.
And there is the question of whether the sidewalls are vertical or if they taper - are you measuring the largest footprint or the reduced one?

I actually have both an SSK and a caliper but since I never use the caliper I don't know where I have it stored right now... If I find it soon I'll measure the badge.

Well, I measured the socket, since it is easier to fix the caliper against it's walls. I took the measurement approximately in the middle of the socket both vertically and horizontally. Granted, I determined if the caliper was perpendicular to the socket axis only by sight, so take the results with the grain of salt.

I am a bit confused:
The product which we expressed interest in isn't defined in every detail yet?
Details are discussed in this thread or over here workshop-f7/replacement-badge-for-f-upg ... 13800.html?
There will be a poll for which design we want to order? (maybe even more designs? e.g. smaller version for ssk?)
I assume yes; the latter; not exacly sure yet
but you might want to edit the info in the OP

I was assuming the group buy is for the base "IBM" badge. The workshop you posted is using this same media for a future badge for the FSSK/FEXT project. I realize at one point they were tied, but I think conversations in the Workshop thread have decoupled that from this group buy.Ray wrote: ↑I am a bit confused:

That is my wish.
My vote goes to a standard-size, "IBM" (only), silver-on-black badge, with gold print as an acceptable alternative.
If there is a second option, that should be a similar SSK-sized piece in the same color scheme.

As you all can see wcass originally posted his badge design in his workshop thread. I started this GB thread for the reproduction of this:
- What we are ordering?
- Who we are ordering from?
- When we are ordering?
- How shipping will be handled?
If anyone has other suggestions...please! We have 79 orders at this point BTW.
Now since this is a GROUP buy we will have to have a vote on more than one subject. Anything else is not fair IMO.IBM Model M industrial 1394946 logo.jpg

Well as the first page says it's a replacement badge.
When asked about ssk : "Possibly, not right now. I think it might make sense to add an interest check for SSK badges, I will add that soon."
So i assume this is and always was what the tittle says : " OshPark Replacement Badge for IBM Model M "
So as for the moment its an replacement badge for IBM Model M, the one with the IBM logo.
That is what i understand.

That is what I planned that is correct Alkhar. That is also what I assumed that people want which is very important.
They all actually have the IBM logo though!

- What we are ordering? the badge that you are showing
- Who we are ordering from? whoever has the best quality and best price
- When we are ordering? soon?
- How shipping will be handled? ideally there would be a distribution node in each major region.

Oh good thing you cleared that up for all of us fohat, but the "distribution node in each major region" you have to explain to me.

Thanks for posting this... I was confused by the confusion, and was about to post the same earlier. I think the other thread was throwing people off. The workshop thread is an exercise in marketing... Nothing to do with this group buy

Sure but like I just mentioned we have 79 "orders" right now, so I won't be deciding this alone. I have said what the initial idea was and still is. wcass thinks we should also order SSK badges, I do not. But that's not the end of it.

It's only confusing if made so. Not my intention!
It's actually quite simple, once the participants are asked to paypal their money we'll find out who is happy with their order and who is not.
To spice things up further i$ sent me this PM today:

idollar wrote:Hello,
For you information, wcass has sent me one badge in an envelope
It arrived today. It looks glorious. It is not really black but a VERY DARK blue. At least looks like this with my illumination.
The trick to cut the joins is to use a sharp knife or cutter. Do not break them !!!!
This will leave a little of excess of material that can be sanded afterwards, following the contour.
If you want to see my sample, I could send it to you, on the condition that it comes back
I will be for more than one set, for sure.
Cheers

wcass sent me one of the badges that he ordered. I like it a lot.
Following some additional pictures (apologies, dark colors, quality and jpg/png do not go together)
You can see that the join to the main PCB shall be cut with care. I did it with a sharp knife, leaving some material in the badge. I then sanded the badge's side, with the badge perpendicular to the sandpaper and always following the contour. It takes some minutes but if done with care, the result is good. The critical moment is when the extra piece is removed with the knife.
