Mint condition OmniKey Ultra-T, $175 BIN. Arguably THE ultimate Alps chassis.

ANSI isn't for everyone, I find it wasteful, impractical and ugly myself . The layout on the Ultra-T is really good!orihalcon wrote: ↑Why is the ultimate ALPS chassis not the ANSI 101 key version omnikey?

Alps chassis? I've never tried any Northgate-OmniKey but I bet the rest is pretty nice also.Chyros wrote: ↑Mint condition OmniKey Ultra-T, $175 BIN. Arguably THE ultimate Alps chassis.

Not at all, it has the same amount of buttons as ANSI, and unlike ANSI you get a very useful enter key in return . I'd much rather have a proper enter key than a large \| key.

I see your point, but I don't need an Enter bigger then on ANSI. Big \| is unnecessary, I agree, but I guess I'm speaking from IBM perspective where when Backspace is remapped to |\ it's easy to add two single keys in the place of Backspace. Got to love IBM.
I guess my favorite Omnikey would be ANSI Ultra if it existed, so if I ever get one it will be hard to decide between 101 and Ultra. Maybe I'll have to get both

I really don't mind either layout, but tiny left shift on ISO bothers me so much that I tend to prefer ANSI just for that. I know where Ü,Ö and Ä are I don't need the printing to tell me.

HHKB is ANSI at its best. Large \ ? No. Easily reached Backspace instead!
And yes, 1.25u left Shift really bothers me. 2.75u is too large for a Shift key, but 1.25 is definitely too small.

I'm with Chyros... I love the Omnikey/Focus layout myself. The bigass enter is awesome and I like that it still has a full-sized backspace key (my #1 complaint with layouts like Chicony's). As I generally don't use the forward facing slash, having it shoved off to the bottom row doesn't bother me.
I actually grabbed that Ultra T, as well. It's not a bad price at all for a rare and almost mint condition Northgate, and to be honest I spent far more for my Ultra TP. At least this one will have genuine white Alps and not the simplified ones on my Ultra TP, plus it'd make a great chassis for my set of 84 blue Alps switches that I salvaged from a DC-2014.

I use the pipe | and the backslash \ all the time on Unix-like command lines, to either redirect output or escape characters respectively. I don't mind the HHKB layout so much as it's a minor adjustment, but the Omnikey arrangement is really quite frustrating for me.

Agree on the first point. Regarding Shift keys, I almost never use left Shift, but 1.25x is fine for either left Shift or Right shift. However, I have tried a 1.00x right Shift, and this was definitely too small. That extra 0.25x makes a big difference for me.Muirium wrote: ↑HHKB is ANSI at its best. Large \ ? I also like the two 1.00x keys on the HHKB where the Backspace sits on many traditional keyboards -- one for Backslash/Pipe, the other for Backtick/Tilde. When I remap traditional keyboards to a HHKB-like layout, I usually assign Backspace to Backslash/Pipe in the default layer and Backtick/Tilde in the Fn layer -- not as convenient as the HHKB, which puts both of these in the default layer.

To programm a PS/2 Tipro without a native PS/2 port on your PC. You can use PS/2 Tipros through a ps2/usb adapter but you need a native ps/2 port to programm it. Only alternative is this Y-cable.
