Khers the photos show some bottom cases and some top cases - all of the original style top cases are identical to each other besides the colors, and the same with all the original style bottom cases.

A few people are upgrading to the True Red cases after seeing the case photos - I am happy to upgrade you if you let me know in the next few weeks, or you can add a spare case.

Hi Frank - the most recent update was that there have been significant delays on the case molds with getting them into production and then getting the powdercoat texture and color correct. I am getting the powdercoated die cast zinc case samples in hand next week but I noted that I will not compromise the project and allow bad powdercoating to make it into the final product in order to reduce the wait time by 1-2 months. I am basing the off-white powdercoating color and texture on my brand new in foam packaging original F77 keyboard which has not had the effects of sunlight exposure (Model F powdercoat colors do vary so it won't match your original Model F keyboard most likely, for example). The industrial gray powdercoating is going to be similar to my Industrial SSK color, which is slightly but noticeably different from the color of full size Industrial M cases.

Virtureal the current case color breakdown is about 26% Black, 40% Gray, 30% Off-White/Beige, and the rest are custom colors (True Red or Pantone 14-5002 Silver Gray).

The powdercoated case samples came in today and the factory did a good job. I will be asking the factory to add a little more gray to darken the Off-White/Beige paint color, and the Silver Gray color is a little too bluish/too light.

Industrial Gray was a close match to my original IBM Industrial SSK plastic case; True Red and Black also came out well.

The powdercoating on the Brand New Model F keyboards is in my view an even higher quality process than that of the originals - it feels a lot more protective and less likely to flake - but time will tell I guess.

Hmm really tough call between the pantone silver and industrial gray. Ellipse, is it possible to get a comparison shot, keeping in mind that the final coloring of the Silver will be less blue/light?

@Ellipse: Looking good. The industrial grey looks especially nice. I also like the red -- almost makes me wish I had ordered red instead of black. The black looks glossier than I had anticipated. Somehow, I had thought that the black was to be a matte black (?)

The ONLY problem with powder-coating is that every job is hand finished hence you will have to accept the job perpetrated by someone else, on the other side of this planet.

So only when you finally receive it, can you alone determine whether it's up to a high standard or not. Not saying that Ellipse has picked dodgy sprayers here but powder coating is a highly specialised finishing service, open to all sorts of problems and mistakes.

Hypersphere the colors are all as matte as possible while still maximizing durability of the powdercoating. There are some reflections in the darker colors. The powdercoating on these new keyboards is of a more durable mix of paint compared to the originals which did not seem to have as good a powdercoating job and were more prone to chipping.

Ellipse, I'd like to change one of the keyboards to True Red, and since I'm switching the color around, I'd like to change a couple more things in my order, if at all possible!

Here are the very first of the factory-made compact xwhatsit PCBs! Production of the compact xwhatsit controllers has finished but the capacitive PCBs are not yet ready. This photo shows two assembled with components and one test PCB with just solder paste.

I was looking at the expansion header of those compact xwhatsit controllers and was wondering - are there any non-IBM solenoids that you can buy today that can be directly driven by the xwhatsit controller and not needing the solenoid driver board? Maybe one that meets the power requirements, maybe a smaller one? Has anyone done this?
