Hi!
Complete newbie here. I've been stalking for a while and am just beginning to figure out what a round 5 is. I have a few questions and would be really grateful if someone could answer them or point me in the right direction if this isn't the place for them.

- Do most people use group buys to purchase keys for boards they already have or to build custom boards around those keys?
- Can one purchase PCBs and/or plates for the different supported layouts? For example, could I buy the keys and plates for the Hyper7, hand-wire it with my own switches and build my own case?
- How does one pay? I have seen a few complaints about purchases not being delivered. Is this generally a problem?
- How does one know what buys are coming up?

Round 5 is the 5th offering of custom keycaps by the insane robot overlord 7bitischeinfeld wrote: ↑ Complete newbie here. I've been stalking for a while and am just beginning to figure out what a round 5 is.
I'd say a bit of both, some people with stock boards just put on new caps other makers create their own boards and custom caps are often the easiest way to accompany their creations.ischeinfeld wrote: ↑Do most people use group buys to purchase keys for boards they already have or to build custom boards around those keys?
I've yet to see a PCB or case offering for the Hyper7 but I know 7bit has a few board projects in the works (or at least he did)ischeinfeld wrote: ↑Can one purchase PCBs and/or plates for the different supported layouts? You pay to a collector, who processes the payment and then 7bit (eventually ships you the caps)ischeinfeld wrote: ↑How does one pay? I have seen a few complaints about purchases not being delivered. Is this generally a problem?
this is a very very very lengthy process because the caps usually need to be made, but if you are buying Leftovers from Round 5 (not HoneyB or Round 6) then he has them in stock and ships pretty regularly.
By being active on the forums! There are other venues for groupbuys like Massdrop and the PimpMyKeys system from Signature Plastics, but this is an "Old School" group buy.ischeinfeld wrote: ↑How does one know what buys are coming up?

There are a few Hyper7 PCBs floating around like the one I have, although I haven't built mine yet since I need a plate and a case for it.SL89 wrote: ↑I've yet to see a PCB or case offering for the Hyper7 but I know 7bit has a few board projects in the works (or at least he did)ischeinfeld wrote: ↑Can one purchase PCBs and/or plates for the different supported layouts? Thanks lolpes and SL89. I'm looking forward to getting more involved here, although school does manage to take up most of my time.
And I'll keep my eyes open regarding the Hyper7

I found this thread:
workshop-f7/hyper7-development-t11344.html
The only source for PCB's seems to be Santa. Should I ask there?

I messaged 7bit to ask what the projects status was and if I could purchase a full keyset from round 6. Not sure if that was a good idea as I don't know him Haven't heard back.
I would love to build the hyper7. I'd even be willing to get my own plates made and hand-wire it. Then again, I'd be happy to avoid that if possible!

hes a busy bot overlord, so expect delays, but usually it's best to ask here so anyone else who has the same question can see itischeinfeld wrote: ↑I messaged 7bit to ask what the projects status was and if I could purchase a full keyset from round 6. Actually, 7bit got back to me right away!
I am just trying to see what variations I can make on the layout with the caps left over from round 6, and if I can scrape together the $$$ I might go for it.About Hyper7:
Yes, I still work on the project and I hope I'm able to let the parts made by the end of this year.
Key caps for it would be in the HONEYB/HYPER7/CADET kit, but for sure you can also use different keys or a different layout.

Are keys from round 5 and 6 the same type / compatible?
Also, does anyone know if the 2u keys in the HYPER7 sit on two stems/switches or one with a stabilizer? Are they interchangeable with other 2u keys?

Yes, the WHITE, GREY, RED, BLACK keys match those of Round 5 and the SPH-grey and BLUE keys match the Round 4 sphericals.ischeinfeld wrote: ↑Are keys from round 5 and 6 the same type / compatible?

The 2 units keys have 2 stems and fit on top of 2 switches. It is possible to take the spring of one key out and use it as stabiliser. However, the Hyper7 keyboard will have connections for all single keys so you can also use 1 unit keys on the 3 function rows. I will restart the work on the project (mainly mountplates and case) within the next few weeks.

I don't know if there's enough inventory left to buy oneself up into a really high rank anymore. You'd have to buy lots of odds and ends kits you would never use to even break the top 100.

Can someone please help with changing my address for my order?
I've follow this in the wiki and sent a PM to 7bot but, it doesn't seem to trigger a change in my address:
ADDRESS
D. T. User
7837 Custer School Rd
Custer, WA 98240
USA
Any help would be appreciated!

It most likely worked just fine, but you won't get a new invoice showing the new address immediately. Invoice updates are somewhat sporadic. If you do get a new invoice and the address isn't the new one, then PM 7bit (not 7bot) directly and ask for his assitance.
(Confusion alert: 7bot is a piece of bot software and is the correct recipient for order and address changes; 7bit is its human overlord and is the correct recipient for special help requests)

Just placed my order for caps for a Hyper7.
HONEYB/HYPER7/CADET
HONEYB/SYMBOLS/R1/BLACK
HONEYB/FUNCTION1/BLACK
HONEYB/MODSYM100/BLUE
HONEYB/FUNCTION3/BLUE
HONEYB/INTER/SPH
HONEYB/LOTUS/RED
HONEYB/HELVETICA/R1/RED
HONEYB/ESCAPE/WHITE
HONEYB/SYMBOLS/SPH
Let's see if that's all still available (and if I can afford it )
Am I right in thinking it is still 15% off?

Got my invoice, still 15% off
How do I 1) request tracking and 2) request to pay via PayPal? Do I message 7bot SHIPTRACKED and PAYPAL ?
Are keycaps from round 4 or 5 compatible with those from round 6?
Also, are there any media keys available in the style of round 6?

Not all of Round 4 is the SA family, only the SPH kits are SA (SPH means "spherical"). However, the blue and grey colors of Round 4 SPH are the same as the blue and "SPH" grey colors of Round 6. The Honeywell colors from Round 6 are the same as from Round 5. Note that SPH grey and HONEY grey are not the same color (they are GD and GPA respectively). They are all Cherry MX mount.
One other minor difference between Round 4 SPH and Round 6 worth mentioning is that the F-row keys from Round 4 SPH are row 3 profile rather than row 1 as in Round 6.
