The Cherry MX 8.0 looks pretty nice actually. The whole board is supposed to weigh almost 1kg.

I see they made the TKL with a bulge similar to the Apple Wireless keyboard and the Lenovo Yoga Tab, the latter having a rotating kickstand in the bugle. But the reason why both of these have a cylindrical bulge is because THAT IS WHERE THE BATTERY GOES because THEY ARE WIRELESS DEVICES. The Cherry MX Board 8.0 is a WIRED KEYBOARD.

I think the G80-5000's the closest they've done, unless some expert can produce us a 0xxx or 1xxx. Traditionally they've catered to that market with things like the G84s and the G86 SPOS.

Well, I can see there's a market for each of them. They don't attract me much (though the 8's at least clean and simple) but they're not meant to, they're going for the gamer lamp-with-keys market. I wonder if these have RealKey?

Neither the web site or the datasheets mention RealKey.

One thing stands out though: The MX Board 9.0 does require two USB ports, which is weird as there is no hub or passthrough listed, nor is the rated power consumption over 500 mA which is the limit for one USB port.

Maybe it's an extra port to connect something, like the mouse or to charge a mobile phone?

Although I'm not a fan of the apple-ish design, it does beat the 9.0 one by far. To me, this is a move to try to bite specific niche markets: apple-looks and razer-looks. And we can't ignore that the "gamer" look has a way bigger market right now. And apple look always had a decent enough following for this to have some payoff. They already covered the more conservative looks, so I can see them going for a more "bold" look to see if the market responds positively.

Funny, cherry is using cherry profile again. Doubleshots actually, although not as thick as vintage cherry caps.
A shame they chose this ugly font instead of their classic one.

I'm not really sure, I guess with MX Board 2.0? Since then MX board 3.0 and 6.0 had those low profile keycaps, and 9.0 seems to have them as well.

I mean all G81/G83/G86 variants and the G80 variants that aren't labled "MX Board" and new enough to have MX switches. I'm not sure about release dates for those, but they still manufacture a lot of them.

Actually, "Cherry profile" keycaps are as low as is possible (to the switch) while being as thick and contoured as they are.

MX Board 2.0 and 3.0 keycaps are not contoured and only marginally lower than Cherry profile's home row which they can be only because the profile is flatter.
MX Board 6.0 has a contoured variant of the 2.0/3.0 keycaps, basically.

But, there is a trick: The cases for MX Board 2.0, 3.0 and 6.0 have higher borders around the keys, with the keycap shapes matching that line, thus making the keys lower in profile only relative to the case top - not to the switch.

Because MX Board 8.0 does not have a case top, you can't use that trick and get away with it.

If you manage to destroy the insides you can order a refill for only 90% of the price of a whole new board.

Only use genuine Cherry refills. Third party refills can dammage your keyboard. Using third party refills voids your warranty.

Yep. It's a USB keyboard according to the web page and data sheet. In all pictures I have seen, the cable looks like it is permanently attached.

And here is a render from Lenovo's site of a Lenovo Yoga Tab tablet, showing off its kickstand. It looks as if Cherry is copying this setup for the keyboard leg:

Can Bluetooth circuitry be housed in an aluminium tube? Perhaps they're going to release a revision with Bluetooth and a battery in the bulge, and maybe a mode switch on the end.
And what will they call it? Well, it's 8 with features added that really should've been there in the first place, so of course it'll be called 8.1.
