What a shame that Obama couldn't run again. But seriously, what started as a massive pissoff by Trump ended him being elected. Can't get more murican than that!
I still doubt that he has an agenda for the 4 years.

Won't happen- they don't have the super-majority necessary. He might to show he's keeping his promises, however. What they can do (and probably will) is defund it in appropriations.kbdfr wrote: ↑If so, then not thanks to Obamacare:Source: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/ ... are-reformOn day one of the Trump Administration, we will ask Congress to immediately deliver a full repeal of Obamacare.

Just watching Trumps victory speech and I amused how mediocre his eloquence is.
Unbelievable that he managed to win this election with just stupid phrases that were already boring in 90' action movies.
I sincerely pity our fellow members from the us. Your country proved that a giant Douche is able to become president of the united states.

Because in the US electoral system anyone (native citizens) can become president of the united states. That includes any and all douchbags.cookie wrote: ↑Your country proved that a giant Douche is able to become president of the united states.

The real culprit is the lack of choices. Anyone that actual wants to be a career politician is a bit batty by nature, and is certainly not the brightest of the crowd. Smart people want guaranteed success and financial spoils, especially in our modern society where walls of segregation/mediocrity are broken down completely by brilliant ideas if you have one. Why on earth would anyone other than a career politician or "lime light" chasing goon want to participate in that mess?!? The president makes nothing in the scheme of what a smart person is capable, and if I am doing something for legacy reasons, I would rather provide generational wealth to my descendants than to have a library built in my honor. The scope of what matters to the people that should run for office has shifted, and the office hasn't shifted to entice those most deserving... The fortunate part is "the leader of the free world" really doesn't have much power in a checks and balances system by themselves (no one does unless they have synergy)

I listened to some of his speeches and interviews until I couldn't stand his voice anymore and made this observation: Trump probably has not read all the way through a book in decades, or read anything of actual intellectual challenge, or written much of anything. That clearly reflects in his choice of language when thinking on the spot and the content of his shallow arguments.cookie wrote: ↑Just watching Trumps victory speech and I amused how mediocre his eloquence is.

The thing is, most Americans have not either, so his language is on their level, and they can connect with it. And the language is very enticing, persuasive, and visceral when you take it at face value.

Seems Scott Adams just learned the lessons of Edward Bernays and how politicians use this to craft a road in the demographics to an electoral win. Except that he only credits it to Trump, while he should credit it to, well, all of them since Bernays. You'll find that an Obama doesn't differ much from a Bush or Trump as persons who climb a ladder to power by targeting a specific choice of demographics (scale from left to right) as the road to a win, without actually caring much about said demographics at all. You know, like Bush becoming a born again Christian. If you like that idea, and you vote Democratic, well, they are pulling the same psychological tricks with you, targeted on what you'd like to hear. Your leaders are not your heroes.
If it makes you feel any better, what we're seeing with Brexit and Trump is a sort of soft (r)evolution of the people against the establishment. These people had enough, and don't have any other weapons than their vote. In a classic revolution, in the first step of a power vacuum, any bigot can step into that place, such as a Trump. Although the bad news would be that then they get killed and replaced by an even more powerful figure in step 2, for better or worse (usually worse). I doubt this is a classic revolution (not just Trump, but what is happening in multiple countries), and Trump is going to disappoint like Obama did (more war, more corporate interests, more mass spying), but tensions are rising between the controlling 1% and the rest.

I read an interview with the "ghost writer" of one of his books who said that the absolute limit of Trump's attention span was about 15 minutes.vivalarevolución wrote: ↑

I am completely on the same page like you but still shocked this is possible.
This is exactly how I feel right now, he is a visionary guy. I give him major credits for establishing something like a social system. Sadly the angry mob wasn't very pleased with this necessary step. I believe he could have done a lot more if the country wasn't in the middle of a big "Terrorists" witchhunt. Bush really fucked it up.fohat wrote: ↑Obama is possibly the best president that the US has seen in my lifetime.cookie wrote: ↑ from Obama to Trump is like driving a LADA after 8 years of driving a Mercedes S-Class

Consider that my three month old son can focus on learning to pick up a rattle for at least a 45 minutes, can sleep for longer at a stretch, and spends less time than Trump fussing every day. Also has better hair, and proportionally larger hands.fohat wrote: ↑I read an interview with the "ghost writer" of one of his books who said that the absolute limit of Trump's attention span was about 15 minutes.
Probably a similar amount of spitting and wildly flailing his limbs though.

To be more serious for a minute, I feel great pity for Donald Trump.
His father was an abusive piece of shit who alternately beat the hell out of him and spoiled him rotten. His whole family hates and fears him, especially his children, and all his wives have mainly been in it for the money. He doesn’t have a single true friend, and everyone around him is a sycophant, either paid by Trump or hoping to profit somehow. He has spent his whole life trying to gain the respect of the rich and powerful elite, and for most of his adult life he’s been the punchline to tacky jokes. He has no respect for anyone, and in return no one respects him. He reportedly can’t sleep for more than 4 hours per night. He spends hours a day vainly looking at his reflection in a mirror – and the face and hair that look back at him are hideously ugly, an unnatural misshapen orange blob with weird pale circles around the eyes. He wears suits that are 3 sizes too big to hide his obesity. He harbors a long list petty grudges with B-list celebrities over trivial slights that happened decades ago. He has cheated customers, clients, business partners, lenders, taxpayers etc. his whole career, to the point that now nobody will do business with him unless fully paid in cash up front. Nobody will lend him money except Russian mobsters hoping for influence. Almost everything he’s ever tried has been a complete failure, except running a reality TV show. By trying to help, he has driven all sorts of things out of business, including a whole sport league, a booming tourist town, numerous real estate projects, and dozens of other businesses. He and his father drove his own older brother to suicide. All the people he respects despise and detest him, and the people he is now a hero for are poor SOBs who he doesn’t want to touch (he doesn’t shake hands because he’s a pathological germophobe).
Donald Trump lives a life of luxury from his career of cheating and fraud, but he is a deeply unhappy man who has hardly ever experienced a peaceful or joyful moment in his life. His main satisfactions are from sadistically dominating people weaker than himself, but it’s a fleeting and shallow kind of satisfaction, which quickly passes and leaves him hurting again. In his wake lies nothing but misery and destruction.
It’s a sad and lonely and heartbreakingly inhuman kind of life. He’s more a force of nature than a man, like a grotesque god of destruction and suffering given corporeal form.

I am not suprised.
Searching about 15min to find the post I feared that he will win and that I am afraid.
Or it's a faulty (desirable) memory.
Some points I like from this perilous gangster: stopping TTIP, less engagement from the US in the NATO

I don't remember the specifics of something that I read some time back, but here is this:
"Some people who have been close to Trump have started to sound alarms. In July, Tony Schwartz, who spent a year and a half with him as the ghostwriter for his best-selling The Art of the Deal in 1987, said the fact that Trump “has no attention span” should be an “explicit” issue in the current election. O’Donnell, who put out a tell-all book in 1991 but had kept quiet since then up until recently, wrote last month in his local paper that he’s “horrified” by the possibility of a President Trump partly because Trump’s “attention span was so small it was almost impossible to have a strategic conversation with him.”"

Trump is talented in the same way that a snake-oil salesman is. He's good at distorting reality and playing up to people's desperation.
He was able to get an estimated 2 billion dollars worth of free advertising through polemic comments. He shifted the conversation away from his weak points, policy for example, and switched it to the weak points of his rivals. And by constantly exaggerating their perceived weaknesses, he was able to convince people that while it might not be as bad Trump claims that it's still really bad.
To illustrate what I'm talking about let's take the example of Climate Change. >99% of scientists agree that there is climate change due to human activities. Yet those who deny Climate Change make up roughly half of the dialogue presented in mainstream American media. It's not representative of the actual consensus amongst experts on the topic.
Crooked Hillary. The average non Trump supporting American, even Democrats who aren't hard core Hillary supporters say "Well I don't like Trump, but Hillary is corrupt." The woman has been under scrutiny for the last 20 years, and under those circumstances, if she was so corrupt wouldn't you expect much more damning things to come out?
I didn't follow this election closely, so excuse me if I miss one of the 'scandals'. But from her emails what have they found? That some of the people in her staff are human and made mistakes? I'm not trying to excuse her for Benghazi, but objectively was what she did really that bad? I'd reckon that Hillary would end up somewhere in the middle of the Politicians scruples-o-meter.
Lyin' Ted .. yeah, who wants to bet that Trump lied more?

This part is more nuanced and interesting, in a horrific way. Trump is a genuine pathological liar, to the extent that (I believe) he is literally unable to distinguish "truth" from "untruth" so that he considers whatever came out of his mouth most recently to be "the truth" and that pretty much everything else is irrelevant.n__dles wrote: ↑

Ted Cruz, on the other hand, is a completely cold-blooded thrall to the moneyed elite (and the religious fundamentalists), 100% devoted to accomplishing their dictates, whatever the personal or societal costs, like too many of his fellow Republicans in the US Congress.
This, frankly, is infinitely more worrisome to me, and more "evil" however you choose to define the term.

This tells me you have learned nothing from Brexit and Trump, and continue the nasty polarizing demonizing you have been brainwashed into by the establishment, the exact thing, I think, why these people voted Trump even if they wouldn't like him. It's so childish to see it as a battle between good (you) and evil. Why not see the problem as an adult, these voters were not properly represented. Demonizing these voters will only aggravate the problem. Talking about poison. If Clinton had learned from Brexit instead of shoving their problems aside by calling them racist misogynistic douchebags and copying the same mistake, and only slightly taken their problems seriously, then it would have been a lie just like with Trump, but she would have won.jacobolus wrote: ↑Which tells you that something like 30% of adults in the US are racist misogynistic douchebags, spending their days in the poison of right-wing radio and tv.

Trump said Mexicans are rapists bringing drugs and crime, and said a second-generation judge born in Indiana couldn’t be impartial because his parents were Mexicans. He said women are pigs, dogs, fat, ugly, etc., and bragged about assaulting them. He said all black people are thugs who live in apocalyptic “ghetto” hell-holes. Not to mention has a history of repeated flagrantly illegal housing discrimination. He courted the KKK and other white supremacist groups, and made the chairman of fucking Breitbart his “campaign CEO”. He made disparaging jokes about Native Americans. He made jokes about east Asians. He implied that most if not all muslims promote terrorism, and said that refugees are criminals. His VP believes in gay conversion therapy. Historically he made comments about how blacks couldn’t be trusted with money, only Jews. He ran explicitly anti-semitic campaign commercials. His commercials recalled the good old days when immigration to the USA was based on strict racial quotas.
At his rallies supporters shouted “Trump that Bitch”, wore “Hillary for Prison” shirts and shirts suggesting Clinton should be executed. Female reporters were verbally harassed and showered with insults. A black trump supporter was called out by Trump and then kicked out. A disabled child non-violently protesting was physically assaulted by Trump supporters. Numerous non-violent minority protesters were seriously beaten.
Etc. Etc.
If you don’t think Trump’s campaign was explicitly racist and misogynist, I have a bridge to sell you.
