Wiki work is usually well regarded. seebart won an award last year for his wiki work.
I keep meaning to do more of that but I spend too much time discovering new stuff and not enough documenting the old stuff.

Thanks mate . The videos do feel like more of an accomplishment than the voice xD .cml wrote: ↑Voted Chyros for his videos, not for his voice. His voice is ok, but I couldn't care less about it, the videos are impressive--as other projects in this vote.

Can we just give the gold to Daniel Beardsmore, Chyros, and ripster55?
It's almost impossible to pick, they've done such good work.

I'm going MF for this one. Since this is open to other communities, let the one truly collaborative project here be a model for all to follow.

That's a nomination that could be made. It would be in the spirit or The *Ping* At the same time, ripster's creation of /r/MK had a huge impact in terms of drawing new people to the hobby.
While some people simply stay on /r/MK, others branch out to GH and DT and head toward the vintage game instead of hoarding Pok3rs and artisans.

If ripster and the POK3R both win awards, yes. Absolutely.Khers wrote: ↑DTA6 for DTA7 Ping if ripster wins gold?
Yeah, r/mk attracts a lot of new users which is good, and its obvious ripster knows a ton/has excellent guides/etc, but going year by year I can't say he has done a whole lot worthy this year (or the past few) to get an award, he almost solely shit-posts these days.

after having been banned from DT for good reasons,
and I hope my new vote will contribute to preventing that.
Just a reminder, by the way:

I think it was a great idea to reach out to the other communities and invite them to the DTA6 awards. Maybe they get a positive experience from it and run their own awards next year.

I'm with Wodan on this one. It was a good idea to invite people from the other established keyboard communities because it could result in worthy new Deskthoritarians. I am not concerned about DT becoming just another carbon copy of other places because I think those that don't really *get* this community tend to move on pretty quickly, and that is just fine.

Ripster is a whole 'nother story naturally -- I was just talking about expanding DTA to a wider audience. There's really nothing like DTA or the DT Wiki in the keyboard world. They are two things that DT is blazing the trail for so, personally, I think it's cool to get more exposure for both.

Personal opinions and past actions (bans) aside, I maintain that ripster's creation of /r/MK is worthy of nomination.
You have the right to vote for or against him -- this is a free speech forum, after all. And he's a divisive figure.

The early promise of the internet was that it would be a great and neutral instrument for the dissemination of information and ideas world-wide.
The complete lack of censorship has meant that bad information could be distributed side-by-side with good, without any indication of which was which, and the universal proliferation of filter bubbles [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_bubble] has dramatically encouraged closed intellectual ecosystems rather than open ones.

For the "#1 Keyboard Expert on the Planet" (as he himself puts it) award, perhaps, ohaimark wrote: ↑Personal opinions and past actions (bans) aside, I maintain that ripster's creation of /r/MK is worthy of nomination. […]
but not for an award called "The Deskthority".
It's just ridiculous.
DT members who know him will most certainly not vote for him (with perhaps a very few exceptions),
and DT members who do not know him have of course no reason at all to vote for him.
Same applies to GH.
So we can say with some certainty that the only reason he has so many votes is that the members of his own forum /r/MK are massively voting for him.
Voting for him, who for good reasons was banned from Deskthority, to get "The Deskthority" award.
It's just ridiculous.

I think it has a much better effect if you advertise voting for a favourite of yours than expressing your concerns with another one. We've just seen that ANY kind of publicity is good publicity ... work _FOR_ something and not against

It isn't ridiculous at all, but you're entitled to that opinion. Ripster, as much trouble as he may have caused here and on GH, created an entire mechanical keyboard community that funnels people deeper into the hobby. I was on /r/MK before I became established here, for example.
If webwit could win awards, we'd all vote for him. I'm pushing to create a rule which prevents forum leaders from being nominated for awards next year unless there are extreme circumstances (such as founding the largest mech keyboard community on the internet).
The Deskthority no longer represents an award specifically meant for Deskthority (at least not while I'm Kingpin). Instead, it's more like the Nobel prize. It won't have Deskthority-oriented bias, either. Alfred Nobel has his name plastered on that award -- he was a Swedish inventor, yet the award is not exclusively given to Swedish inventors.
By the same token, these are community awards with the full weight of Deskthority behind them. If you'd prefer a circle jerk that limits award winners to Deskthority members, that isn't an experience I want to provide.
