is there any interest in a live session of keyboard building? I would start from something simple like a numpad and would build it live on twitch.tv or youtube live so people can also chime in and ask questions.

In a way, with this keyboard stuff, we're all in the same boat
I'd like to see a live keyboard-making session. Not sure if it will be at an available time. In any case, a speed-up post recording of the process would also be appreciated.

Its and amazing idea!!!
I could do a stream of me fully disassembling an apple A1048 right down to the membrane ( it comes pre bolt modded) , and cleaning it, as i do have to do that from time to time.
People love watching others take absolute trash apart on youtube.
The A1048, i want to know how apple took such a well built keyboard and made it feel so terrible!
It has a dual plastic case , a steel backplate that is pre bolt modded ( yes looking at you IBM) and individual cup rubber for each switch , and its a catastrophic disaster it feels worse than a poundland special keyboard!
It takes engineering skill on a level i cannot even imagine to pull that off.

I guess the whole point of the live session is to be able to reply to people's questions on the spot, but I agree a post production would be nice.Laser wrote: ↑In a way, with this keyboard stuff, we're all in the same boat

Which would be the best day and time to do it? I was thinking around 17:00 UTC but not sure if it should be done on sat-sun or workday.
@MrBishop any suggestion welcome

I can see people asking so many questions that you won't have time to actually build the thingmatt3o wrote: ↑is there any interest in a live session of keyboard building? I would probably not watch it live but if the video can be accessed later (which should be the case on both twitch and youtube) I'd certainly watch it later.

Surely the live session will be way more useful, I was rather just thinking I won't have the time to watch it all, whenever it will happen (since by definition it will be a long session -won't it? ). OTOH, 17:00 UTC (or even later) sounds fine (maybe a poll from your available time slots?).matt3o wrote: ↑ I guess the whole point of the live session is to be able to reply to people's questions on the spot, but I agree a post production would be nice.

I have noticed with streaming delays so you may want to do some caned questions to answer or prepare to answer. Then do some Q&A at the end but that's just one way to do it. I'm Est so I find that weekends may be better for this unless you want to do a US then EMEA stream to cover both sides of the globe. I have had large interest in live soldering and assessembly

I honestly have zero experience with live streaming, I would probably have to buy some hardware too. Splitting the US and EU audience would the best course of action... I guess let's try with a first experimental stream and see how it goes

That's what I'm working on. Going to buy a nice webcam today as a starting point and go from there.matt3o wrote:I honestly have zero experience with live streaming, I would probably have to buy some hardware too. Simple rule for live stream / youtube video. As long as the video is decent 720p 30 and up, it will be totaly fine , its the audio that is important.

This will massively improve your audio.

the 920 is a great camera for "standard" conferencing and face-to-face chat but it sucks for basically anything else. compression is terrible, color matching is terrible, frame rate is terrible, lag is terrible.

I like the idea. It would give me an excuse to build one of the many projects I have going.matt3o wrote:is there any interest in a live session of keyboard building? A bit like Gordon Ramsay's "Cookalong Live".
