I wonder if anyone tries to hit the Return key on its thin ascending portion between the right brace and delete? It's like watching a snapshot of evolution -- that appendix is becoming vestigial!

Speaking of Apollo computers, it would have been quite fun to have seen an auction for a DSKY keyboard from the Apollo Guidance Computer used in the lunar missions:

The Apollo keyboard has this "small-ass Enter" key, plus the geeky F0 key (starting from F0 instead of F1), and the REPL key and Pop key.
But as an Apollo keyboard, it lacks the very important "Launch" key - not built for the real rockets.

Yes that return key is quite unusual, reminds me a bit of my Zenith ZKB-2 but this one is stranger with the surrounding keys.

Yes, the Zenith design makes much more sense than the "slim-ass" Enter on the Apollo.

YOU have an Alps-switch board that has scratchy switches?!

Now I don't feel so bad. I had thought that all your Alps-switch boards were in perfect condition and that my house was where all the dilapidated Alps boards went to die, sort of like the Elephants' graveyard. ;)

Seriously, though, when you say "the best of AT101a" are you referring just to the Dell Old Logo AT-101s? Within that group, I see that the DT wiki lists two variants:

FCC ID GYI3PVAT101.
Made in USA by Alps. Alps SKCM Salmon switches. Keycaps are printed in a slightly blue ink.

FCC ID GYIAT101-102
Made in USA or Ireland. Alps SKCM Salmon switches.

Between these two, do you favor the one with the "slightly blue ink"?
I've had TONS of Alps keyboards with scratchy switches xD . Way more than good ones. But the good ones are the onlly ones worth telling about, so that's the only ones you hear of :p .

I don't have the PVAT101, it's the only model of Dell AT101 I don't own. But apart from the blue ink it's basically the same, apparently. I so wish my salmon Dell would have nice-condition switches xD .

It's cool to see the evolution of the series, though, they changed so much over time. They even changed the printing method of the old-style Dell logo between models xD .

Oh boy. The keyboard buyer will probably want to get that numpad at almost any cost to complete the set.

ELI5 on the value of the M15: it was only produced for a very short time during the ergonomic keyboard craze of the '90s. It was prone to breaking in the tilt mechanism, and was quickly discontinued. So to find one in good working condition is very rare, and a New In Box (NIB) example is extremely rare.

What do you think guys, did I let it go cheap? I figured 1/3 of keyboard price seemed about right. Timed for sure, but the auction winner wasn't the one who bought it after all.

Hi
I have the opportunity to get a Model F XT for around 25€. But the guy can't get it to work - controller failure. Is it possible to repair, or swap the thing out for a capsense usb controller?

Another M15! This one isn't lexmark branded, but it's significantly cheaper than the one that just sold.

Possible. The XT keyboard has the controller and capsense pads one one PCB. If I remember right, the traces connecting the two parts each go through two rows of holes so that you could cut the pieces apart and solder them together with wires pretty easily. It should certainly be possible to put some kind of modern capsense controller on there after sawing off the old controller.

Of course, it might be that he's trying to plug it into a PS/2 port with an AT->PS/2 adapter, which would make it look like the keyboard doesn't work when it still in fact does. How certain are you that he tested it properly?

Lol whatt, that is crazy, the caps even got some shine on them. Id be very surprised if the winning bidder actually paid. The strange part is even the second and third highest bidders put in really high bids also.

5161 from earlier went for $275 to some dude with 0 feedback. Gonna go ahead and call it now - he's not going to pay, it'll get relisted and go for a more reasonable price some time next week or the week after just like the K9AX from earlier :^)

The springs+flippers alone make it worth it.

It got sniped by b****a...I doubt he'll be a non-paying winner, however from what I hear, he'll probably take 4-5 days to actually pay. The other guy that had his bid maxed out at $333 probably thought he was setting a ridiculously high sum in order to guarantee himself a win without having to stick around and bid competitively. Probably wasn't expecting someone like b****a to swoop in and scrooge mcduck the whole thing up.

Seems that old Dell AT's are the next [insert blue Alps here] $$$ hype. Remmber: it's just like with any Alps SKCM, they might be really worn and feel like shit which is non-fixable.

alh84001 wrote: The springs+flippers alone make it worth it.
That's right. And it is very fixable since many spare parts exist.
