I've had TONS of Alps keyboards with scratchy switches xD . Way more than good ones. Seriously, though, when you say "the best of AT101a" are you referring just to the Dell Old Logo AT-101s? Within that group, I see that the DT wiki lists two variants:

Possible. The XT keyboard has the controller and capsense pads one one PCB. If I remember right, the traces connecting the two parts each go through two rows of holes so that you could cut the pieces apart and solder them together with wires pretty easily.
