Rarity. I'm not a fan, but it does have some functionality over a 122 on a modern desktop as you have space for a mouse closer in.

I'm not certain why an undocumented pn is a big deal. IBM changed part numbers way too often.

Regardless of PN or red-legend right alt $537.57 for two M's and an Unsaver is not exactly a bargain. Although that one M is an older square label. Still.

Rubbish, the way I see it. If you want a big model F, you get a battleship. If you want a small one, you get an AT. Neither cost anywhere remotely as much as this Oo . You don't even need to convert the F AT if you've got a PS/2 port xD .

I'm kind of surprised the other way. I would have expected the Unsaver prices to drop with the Ellipse and lot_lizard projects. But I guess some like collecting keyboards as a part of history rather than for regular use.

I believe those that covet these keyboards could care less about modern recreations - even if those recreations are better versions of the classic ones. I certainly couldn't bring myself to spend quite that much one a single board like that, though I guess I came close with the K2AX. I can still say that one is one of a kind though

When I can have the original in good shape why would I want a reproduction? Unsaver prices will not fall due to whatever projects. Why do so many prefer the SSK to the regualr Model M's even with the hefty premium pricetag for the SSK and neither are really rare? Then one can up that even further by buying the even more expensive industrial that's basically just the same keyboard in a different color. Madness.

Hmm well I think there's a little more to it but that's part of it yes. Once you really get starred in this hobby often (for me) it's somewhat difficult to just say..."nah why bother with that xxx keyboard now when I've been looking for it for months and years by now and I really still want it". I've seen quite a few users here come to a point where they sell large parts of their collection and I always have resepct for that. Not sure when or if I'll get there.

I'm weird in that regard. There are three reasons I'll pick up a keyboard:

1) It deserves to be saved or cleaned; I need to break even or profit when I flip it in this situation.
2) It is something that I want represented in my collection. I keep a limited number of keyboards to represent families of things, such as Alps switches, instead of amassing keyboards I will see once in a blue moon.
3) It replaces a representative keyboard in my collection with a more interesting (better condition, more usable, more durable, etc.) variant. Bonus points if it represents a wider range, which would allow me to downsize further.

Edit: right now I don't see the appeal of an Unsaver, as I have Model Fs represented by the smaller F AT.

The gold label Omnikey 102 that I purchased was in poor condition. Its switches are a grit fest and the case is cracked on the right hand side, which was not particularly visible in the photos. The seller was uncooperative when I initiated a return, but my 100% eBay win rate stands. The case was resolved in my favor.

Heh, so I was right; the pictures' angles and light WERE taken in such a way to avoid showing the real condition of the board ^^ . Shame that the board is essentially rekt, they are such nice boards in every way.
