I can't read Japanese, but it clearly mentions the AEKII in it. Maybe it's saying it was modded with AEKII switches? If the M0116 did come with white damps, it probably came with cream damps as well, but that's never been seen either. This seems like a mod job to me tbh.Mattr567 wrote: ↑M0116's can come with White Damp, who knew. Undocumented!!!!

And brown Alps are great switches. The tactile assembly fits into the housing with close tolerances that make for a precision machine.

Awesome work, thunderbird! Now there are 3 of us with brown alps 725s (that we know of), or 4 with upper tier tactile alps 725s (brown/neon green)!
IMO the 725 is one of the best alps chassis around - it's certainly the best tactile alps chassis. It's very sturdy for being a plastic construction, it has great acoustic, is ANSI(ish), and it looks badass - the clicker is fun too, as it's not a beep!
Yours looks exceptionally clean. I know Matt used a basically NIB for his brown alps mod, was yours in similar condition? If you have those inserts that go at the top of the case you should totally put those in! It adds to the look =P

Quite the opposite actually, the board was quite dirty when I got it. The orange alps originally in the board were so filthy even an ultrasonic cleaner couldn't restore them. For the case I gave it a really good scrub with some warm soapy water and that worked pretty well. The keycaps, however, cleaned up quite nicely in the ultrasonic cleaner.//gainsborough wrote: ↑Awesome work, thunderbird! Oh wow! That surprises me. Impressive work, then! Did you have to do anything to the plate other than scrub it a bit to clean? It looks like there's no rust on it!Thunderbird wrote: ↑Quite the opposite actually, the board was quite dirty when I got it. Even though the board was rather dusty, the original owner kept it indoors in a dry location so the plate was in perfect condition. All I had to do was spray it with some canned air and brush it a bit with a toothbrush.//gainsborough wrote: ↑Oh wow! That surprises me. Impressive work, then! Yep, it looks like theirs is stock. Ironic because my SKCM Orange wang has great switches but the plate is speckled with rust. Gonna have to do some desoldering to remedy that.//gainsborough wrote: ↑Oh wow! That surprises me. Impressive work, then! Did you have to do anything to the plate other than scrub it a bit to clean? Are the new Wang Boards coming from Northgate Bob? I know he has some, but I don't know if they are the "desirable" model.
On those Wang boards, there are seemingly two different keycap variants, one that is super bright white and one that is more beige. I can try to post pictures if anyone is interested. Haven't gotten around to restoring mine, but thinking maybe I'll stick with the salmons

Why do the boxes have the "wrong" layout printed on them?
The illustrations on the sides of gogu's and Mattr's boxes quite clearly illustrates something similar, but not identical, to the layout on the boards that Menuhin posted, rather than the layout of the board that's actually in the box.

They came from Secret Santa and only one is mine, the other one I have to return. Both have black alps. Still trying to decide if I should linear mod / swap the switches or keep it pristine.

I now have a decent condenser microphone and a audio interface. The noise floor is not amazing but its very clear. Will upgrade to an NT1A and yamaha MG10XU eventually.
Who wants some alps sound samples ?
EDIT
So are the 725-3770 northgate bob has the black alps version with the beige caps ? Or are they the ones with the nice bright white caps ?
That man needs a new camera , and some web design form later than 1994.
