Yes Slom, both highly interesting BUT this part of my hobby is becoming too impractical and won't happen anymore in the future. Both these went for a good price though, I would have gotten the SYSTEM FOUR / VDU. Both these are something OldIsNew would go for but my guess he gets his awesome boards in the US.

This question might sound a bit odd, but does anyone here have a link to the following offer that I've seen linked here on DT some time in the past: some kind of Cherry Battleship, like a G80-2551/G80-2100/etc. with MX Blacks, QWERTZ, not programmable, and an arrow cluster like the Cherry G80-2510 (I think), sold by some German guy on his private website for 10€, but only via phone and not via email (although his email address was actually on his website, ‘hidden’ in white on a white background…), who also, among others, sold a snowmobile? It really frustrates me to no end that I remember all those details, but can't remember the exact model number or what I have to search for to find the website. I know that I could easily find it via Google, using the right keywords, but I forgot those, as well. I normally bookmark these kinds of things…

I wouldn’t hesitate to bid if you want it. These usually go for $80-$100 shipped in my experience (if they have known Green Alps), so the current price is still worth a bid IMHO. Have one already, so I will not be bidding

Are shipping prices for other keyboards that are sometimes more around $50–60 just so extremely inflated, or does this depend heavily on where in the US the seller is located? I, for example, tried to find out how much shipping a Pingmaster to Germany should actually cost via the UPS website yesterday, but either I'm a dumbass and can't use the website properly, or UPS really is disgustingly expensive.

Seems like this seller is participating in the Ebay Global Shipping Program. I don't know how this works but I have seen some amazingly low shipping costs from sellers participating in this program. A lot of the very cheap chinese stuff that you can get with free shipping is going through this global shipping program.

It's clearly A LOT cheaper than any kind of individual shipping you can get - which is what we are seeing in most normal auctions.

I now only buy from sellers who are on the Global Shipping Program because of not only the lower price tag but also complete tracking from when it leaves Flebay's shipping warehouse to my address down under.

All of it's covered under their shipping scheme including damage, theft or non-delivery.

Haven't lost a single package since using that scheme of theirs.

I don't think that's the only reason, though. I have seen auctions/offers for single pens from the US, that were supposed to use the Ebay Global Shipping Program, where shipping was more expensive than for this whole keyboard. And I'm not even talking about anything expensive where insurance could balloon the shipping cost like this.

And even if this was the only reason: How is the Ebay Global Shipping Program so much cheaper than U(S)PS? I just don't get it.

I can only comment from being in Canada and buying things from US sellers selling via the eBay GSP.

In most cases, very cheap shipping equates to free shipping for items within the USA. The cost of shipping that I see is the difference between actual shipping and GSP fees/customs. So if something is normally $50 to ship and GSP adds $30 to ship from the US to me in Canada, normal full shipping cost is $80. If a seller provides free shipping within the US, I would only pay $30 which is why items appear to have cheap shipping. The seller, in some cases, is absorbing the cost of shipping to get it to Erlanger, Kentucky (the Pitney Bowes shipping hub) and I only pay the GSP fees. On top of all this, because of the volume of shipping, eBay gets a decent bulk shipping rate so there is savings that makes the shipping cost a little lower as well.

I almost forgot that Canadians also get the short end of the stick with this. Using some Toronto zip code, shipping of the Pingmaster would still be US $46.22, which is even more ridiculous than US $57.62 to Germany, considering the US and Canada are right next to each other…

I wonder whether it's a complete waste of time to ask the seller to ship it with GSP, or not. Assuming the GSP cost would be similar to the M 122 (and assuming import charges are already included they're not…), and as shipping within the US seems to be around US $10, this would probably cut the costs almost in half a lot…

For Canadians, GSP has ruined the market for small items like individual games and Blu-rays. These can normally be shipped very cheaply, usually for ~$5. GSP pushes the rate up to ~$15.

Got the Ortek extended numpad and it ended up a little dearer as I'd hoped. A sibling of this has been spotted with simplified white ALPS here and I wanted to make sure I got this one after missing out on Geroximo's. Hope it works well with my serial converter...
