Don't set a final price on Flebay.Sangdrax wrote: ↑Makes me wonder if I should put up my special snowflake 3278 1983 with the plastic case and third function engraved caps for like $3K and see if there are any takers. I mean those prices are just insane.
Best just let it ride in with no reserve. Then watch the little fish bite in with bids in the beginning.
It's the heavy Sharks that chime in late on the bidding, that gives you the final four figure sum. Have seen it time and time again happen, right before my eyes.

Well then friends, that is one of the smoothest linear switches I've ever had the honor or pressing. Damn fine switch, I say! Sadly, I think someone is crazy enough to buy one of these at these prices and it won't be to a vintage computer collector who actually needs it...

Is it an optical illusion, or is that international layout 3278 1/2 unit wider in the main block, which would make the case have to be different? I am looking at the top row, and it appears that there are the same number of keys, but the key to the left of "1" has the extra 1/2 unit step off to the left. I look at the other rows and I am not so sure because of the odd key sizings.

Asking $2500 for a damn keyboard and they have the audacity to still charge shipping.snuci wrote: ↑Sadly, I think someone is crazy enough to buy one of these at these prices and it won't be to a vintage computer collector who actually needs it...

Edit: Pretty sure they know that there is something wrong with them too, because they ship everywhere in the world EXCEPT their own country.

I actually think that they are kind of 'decently' priced, the last 3278 sold with burn damage for 1k, here we have one with rare caps in good condition and it starts at 1700. I doesn't sound that unreasonable in this regard. But of course it's still way overpriced

You have a certain youtuber to thank for overhyping the shit out of these things. They have been referred to as 'the best clicky switch' and 'the holy grail' both of which are subjective and are used constantly. I sold my 3278 like a year ago now and kept with capacitive buckling springs. When both switches are in top condition there really isn't any improvement in beamsprings over capacitive BS imo.
Not to mention a lot of 3278 models have a flimsy plastic palmwrest, wobbly keycaps, and a keycap height and profile that is ridiculous to type on.
The hype really needs to stop honestly

It depends on the market. Six months ago or so, a fellow computer collector sold me a 3278 keyboard for what he paid for it so that I could restore a 3278 terminal I have. It was much less than $500, and I do emphasis "much less".j0d1 wrote: ↑I am wondering though... if those are crazy prices, what is the normal market value of a mint 3278? (and I'm not asking that to get one at that price eh) 500$?

Frankly, I don't blame Chyros even if it were his videos. On the contrary actually, I blame it on the people with deep pockets who are willing to keep paying 4-5 times the going rate for a product just so that they can have it.

No one hates Thomas / Chyros. His videos are fantastic. The beamspring ones were just a little too exaggerated imo. It's like people hear about how something is the holy grail so they just accept it as fact. I was honestly disappointed when I had a 3278 after expecting it to be the next significant step up from my 4704

That's like blaming the critic who praised event, for prices set by scalpers. Going to guess that this has Hosiden switches, but it could potentially have some kind of other Alps mount switch as well.

No idea what these switches are, but they are definitely mechanical judging by the PCB.
