Also, why is this 73% in this thread? Even with that glaring -2% hole, this keyboard can't possibly qualify as ugly.

I don't think this one is too bad. I don't like the RGBs but at least they're done well and can be turned off. The starting bid is way too high though. I got my XT with a Soarer's for ~$100 shipped and it's in fantastic shape.

They were in this thread: workshop-f7/it-s-a-5251-but-it-s-1-in-m ... hilit=5251 in a nutshell someone butchered a 5251 to add led lights and two giant switches irreversibly to top shell

The top shell has holes drilled to mount the switches which control the lights and the solenoid on/off. I can't remember if it was also painted to a shocking color aswell.

Having tried to painstakingly restore my 5251 I want to punch the guy who did it in the face for ruining an extremely hard to find top shell.

Oh ok I missed that F107 on the first page! Oh... poor keyboard. Maybe with standard keycaps instead of the relegendable ones, and with the case on, it would look OK.

Yeah that F107 is pretty bad. I don't know who would do such a thing to such a nice and rare board. I plan on getting the case on my F107 powdercoated in a similar color to IBM industrial gray, but I'm still a little bit apprehensive about modifying something so rare.

If the color is carefully selected and the keyboard is in dire need of a repaint, then I don't see the harm. As long as the history of the keyboard is respected in the restoration job. Well that's what I think, of course everyone can paint their keyboard the way they want, except in pink. Never paint a keyboard in pink.

Every time I see this, my heart breaks with indignation. The pure open FUGLINESS of adding leds to a traditional IBM keyboard, goes to show that there is no sense of shame for those that do this.

Nah, paint is just paint. You can always just sand it down and pick a new color, but making holes to cases that's a another story

I knew I should have rehosted the images...

Both the 5251 and the Displaywriter were absolutely abysmal, both in terms of what was done, but also the quality of the craftmanship. If that was the result of feeding just_add_coffee some coffee, I think they should be off the caffeine for a while. Ideally forever.

I bet your Model F isn't in as bad of a condition as mine is! Mine is so rusty that the springs stay stuck so the keys never come back up!

It's going to be quite the restoration.
