You can buy similar rubber domes from Unicomp 10 for $10... For whatever that's worth.

They were being sold completely new with package for 2.5€ a pop btw.

The Datalux has MEI switches which are by far the worst discrete switches I've ever used.

What are the chances this one has ALPS? I'm going by the top-centre LED windows on the lock keys, but other platforms may have these too. As for keycaps, I just don't have an eye for them, so some input on that or other aspects would be welcome! Thanks.

Hard to say, but I'm inclined towards Alps, yeah. The caps and lock lights are pretty Alpsy.

I saw a lot of them. I think is because Apple made too much AEK-like rubberdome keyboards.

A bit off topic, but those certainly were then, and are now, a step below rubber dome, as foam was used as the 'substrate' as opposed to rubber, which feels... spongey. However, back in the day, rubber dome keyboards were a luxury.

Still, they are an interesting thing. Just not ever going to feel amazing to type on. Replacing the open cell foam with closed cell foam, like found inside high quality packaging or some wrist rests, would probably make it feel a million times better.

As a plus though, they seem like they would be really reliable, as they use a proper foil. So there is that. Assuming the foam hasn't completely rotted and foil is still attached, that is.

I wouldn't call them reliable, at least long term. In the short term they should theoretically work extremely well since they are capacitive though.

Hi I found a keyboard and a switch I never saw before. It looks like foam and foil to me with an external leaf spring / clicker? I tried to search wikis but found nothing. Chassis looks like metal. Very similar to Videoton keyboards It has a metal backplate with no info on it (had a paper label but worn out). Cyrillic but has special characters like É. Probably Czech or Hungarian made, for export maybe? If you had some info, it would be wonderful. Thanks!

Negative; those are discrete switches. This just looks like a black slider sitting in a barrel plate. Definitely seems like dome with slider of some description.
