The art of album art, I can get. (Jimi Hendrix LPs are a trip.) But the actual records themselves, not so much. It's a lot of ritual for… ritual.
Vinyls are often different masters though. By necessity they have to have certain level of dynamic range. Digital formats don't.
So there is some truth to the statement that vinyls sound better.

ABS (the company, not the plastic) M1 keyboard. Picked this up cheap. Black unbranded tactile Alps clones (wobbly/sticky), looks like it might take a complete Tai Hao keycap set. Metal plate, decent case, just needs some good switches and caps.

I've never owned a "super" macro lens. This one is completely manual (i.e. you set the aperture on the lens by hand) but much cheaper than the alternatives I looked at. Excited to inundate DT with lots of closeup keyboard pics.

That’s a telephoto, with macro legends on the side (as was the style for a long, long time). Hopefully its focal distance will keep you back a bit! Some distance, and therefore flatter perspective, should help capture the geometry you seek.

Remember to stop it down. Try f/8+ and maybe f/16 if you can bring the light.

Received my '87 SSK from the US! Pretty much pristine and untouched, at most suffering mild discolouration on the model label/birth certificate's edges.

Spoiler:
This is likely someone who wasn't familiar with SSKs and their value

Haha, I didn't think that SSK owner knew what it was worth, otherwise would have put that in the title :D

Nice! I debated going for that, but decided to save some cash.

Hope it's nice!

The keycaps are the reason you buy this particular board. Alps spring over membrane is not too far off Cherry MY. This one was on the Swedish auction site Tradera a couple of days ago.

Ah, must not be the same one. The one I found had skcl greens and was on eBay.

Nice get!

I picked up the C.Itoh/CIE Terminals with greens on ebay :D. The caps are in outstanding condition. They are doubleshot, medium thickness and I think ABS (based on weight, sound and smoothness of the sides). No sign of yellowing. They are pretty steeply sculpted and have fairly flat tops (maybe slightly spherical).

Really not sure what to do with it. The layout is super weird. As is, it's not usable with anything (I'd have to reverse engineer the protocol which uses a 1/4" "headphone" jack). But it's in such good condition, I'd hate to rape it for the caps and switches. What would you do with it?

Hey, look at that, it shows up! Glad it's got a home. Personally I'd open it up and see if it's just a bare matrix or if it's got circuitry for a protocol. If it's got diodes NKRO conversion is relatively simple.

Or, I'd trade it to ZedTheMan for an OmniMac Ultra, and let him do the work of making it usable. :)

Most of the caps are free from yellowing, you're right, except for the top row.

The profile these keycaps are part of is something I've called "MSX" profile for a long time now as a provisional name. Caps of this family all have very similar features, molds, and so on. The tops are unfortunately very flat, despite the spherical appearance of MSX profile caps. All that have been found so far are ABS. If yours are doubleshots, then they definitely are.

Your board is similar to this Heath 163-17 I have and also has Row 0 sculpt caps. Very nice find. That CIE looks very nice and clean.

24 Feb 2020, 23:48

Yeah, that top row does have a bit of discoloration. The picture makes it seem more exaggerated than it looks IRL. I can see it if I hold it up to very bright lights and at a pretty steep angle. The build quality looks to be about the same as a model m, tough heavy plastic and similar overall weight. There's a speaker in the bottom. I'll open it up tonight and get some pics. I might be open to trades, but am not really sure what I'd rather have. I don't use vintage keyboards day to day, but I do like "modernized" alps boards — usually 60% size. Certainly on the lookout for skcm blues and browns.

DCA Irmakey/3270 keyboard

Vintage cherry MX clear "soft click" switches (very early click-jacket), and some superblacks.
They lack the cam found on other early cherry click switches. I gotta take one of these apart and document!

Some nice, but thin, dye sub pbt caps.
Build quality is pretty solid, with a metal backplate, metal mounting plate, and fairly decent plastic case.
