It doesn't work like that, if someone ponies up I shouldn't impose my personal ideals but it's theirs personal ideals. That said, there were unasked offers for DT before from parties just interested in harvesting page views, and they were disposed of. And the reactions from this topic has been from parties who just want the best for DT and might actually bring DT forwards. That's what I'm looking for.WhiskyTangoLima wrote: ↑24 Feb 2021, 23:30What are your ideal qualifications for a new owner? Not asking personally, more just curious

In before Massdrop buys Deskthority to cement their control on Keyboard forums at large.
Jokes aside it's better to sell the site before you desperately need money/ need to be rid of it, it gives you the opportunity to do what's best for the community.

DT’s that other Lambo you've got in your garage, which needs some love but is kinda overshadowed by that amazing electric Trabant conversion job you’re in the middle of, if you could just remember where you put the key to the place. Around here somewhere right…

Do we know that damonskv isn't a Russian oligarch? I'm pretty sure he's Russian, and his collection suggests oligarch money.

it would be convenient to be an oligarch, but instead I have to write thousands of lines in HaskellXMIT wrote: ↑25 Feb 2021, 16:31Do we know that damonskv isn't a Russian oligarch? I'm pretty sure he's Russian, and his collection suggests oligarch money.

Maybe this is a crazy idea, but what if a bunch of members pooled their money, and it became a member owned site?
Would probably require a bit of bureaucracy to work out, maybe electing a representative of the 'owners' or something.
Could see that ending in chaos and disaster, but also could see it being pretty cool.

I'd contribute to that.
However, is it that you want a new owner to pay big $ to take the 'site or do you just want someone available to pay webhosting fees and such while you retain ownership? Free webhosting and maintenance might be a much smaller hurdle to jump.

I haven't been around as much (that whole thing about interest waning), but just had to hop on and thank webwit for his conscientious approach to this rather than just trying to dump it. (Not throwing shade anywhere...)

If there is a potential deal in the works for the transfer of ownership or sale of DT I would like to propose a clause which preserves Webwit's dictatorship status. Also said owner should be well capitalized as to procure and develop the new DT private island, yacht, helicopter, jet, and funding for a future SpaceX mission (Project Mallard).
