He seems familiar. Jay Maynard (a.k.a. Tron Guy)?
Haha I do see the resemblance.

I was wondering as he is (or was!) better known as an MVS sysadmin. He's a braver person than I am. On both counts. :D

Indeed. It seems this should be tagged as (NSFW) not safe for work.

Those 2260s are kinda cute, and not just by IBM standards.

IBM 2260 terminals are certainly cute, but they're not beam springs.

Can't hold that against them though.

I don't hold it against them. It's not their fault. (...poor little guys)

But I thought this was a beam spring photo thread.

Ripped from the Wiki: Contrary to popular belief, the 2260 was created and sold years before the beam spring patent was filed, and does not have beam spring switches, however the keycaps are interchangeable.

The IBM 4979 is just as cute and is beam spring.

I've never actually seen any photos of it other than in IBM ads, so there's no chance of finding one of those either.

Well, the wiki has a couple of photos of that terminal. wiki/IBM_Beam_Spring_Keyboards#4979

I saw that right after I posted. I haven't searched for a few years and it was updated since.

Weird - the photo description says that terminal was on display at the Celestica building - which just happens to be across the street from where I used to live. I've been in that building before and had a job interview there a couple decades ago. If I had known, I would have searched the building and tried to sneak out with one. It might look a little too obvious though. I'd look like this:

No, I was talking about the 4979. Those 4978 keyboards are as common as dirt. They're a dime a dozen. My grandmother used to give them out as Christmas stocking stuffers. (...that might be a slight exaggeration )

Here's an even more rare IBM terminal, predecessor to the 2260 (also not beam spring):

My bad. I would be content to even see one in a museum some day. Also that 1050 I’ve never even heard of.

If I was going to get a 2260, I think I'd want the airline reservation variant. (more buttons = better)

I noticed the keycaps look engraved, not double shot. (what the hell, man, what the hell??!)

And here's another shot of the predecessor. It's labelled 1050, but I don't think that's the model number. (1050 is a teleprinter thing without screen)

That's hot. The keyboard fits into a notch in the desk so it's the same height as a modern desk + keyboard combo.

Been lusting after this bad boy (the computer, not the model ;) ) So thought I'd post it here. Not sure how this one slipped by til now - this specific photo that is.

Note the original, non-yellowed color.

Also, I love the subtlety of the black CMD key.
