How do you store your keyboards?

If I had the storage and more disposable income, I'd probably keep the junk too. But as it is, that's not the case for me. On the other hand, I'll relist them on eBay and hope to gain at least 75% of my initial investment, or improve them (better keys, switches, etc) and try to make some money.

I keep all my keyboarsds in cardboard boxes, even my NIB due to fear of getting it dusted or damaged. Keeping it stored in a decent climate so the yellowing will somewhat be delayed due to not being overly hot in the room.

Correct, an Air conditioned room is mandatory when collecting and keeping a variety of keyboards.

Also I find keeping the loose-stuff downstairs in the basement were the temps are always lower. Trouble is finding enough space down there with other kept junk.

I have some shelf space dedicated to my 60 cases and plenty cardboard boxes stuffed away with everything larger than that. Also original boxes where applicable.

One thing I thought about is getting a display case for some keyboards. Closed cases with UV blocking glass should exist, right?

I don't have a picture of any of the keyboards currently in storage, but I do usually what I do to my daily driver Dell AT101W every night when I'm done with the computer, so here's a picture of that.

Most of my keyboard storage is in a plastic tub. I'm assuming it's my post showing my tub that probably prompted this thread. In any case, once I whittle away my collection again to single digits, they will either be on one of my desks or on a shelf. I need two at work (one Windows and one OS X machine), one for my desktop, one for the second PC, and one that I will attach to my LackRack once I get that built so I have no shortage of places to use them. The trick will be getting rid of what I don't really need.

Main boards are in front of their respective computers, or at work. Rest of my scrap/parts boards are well taken care of, on the floor to the left of my workbench/dinner table. Still need to find out about this one weird fujitsu leaf spring board I have, along with finding a use for two wyse's.... those boards are kept on the floor on the right side.

What boxes are those? I’m forever finding it difficult to source good keyboard shaped boxes. Most are just too… boxy.

Perfectly fit a 101 keyboard but anything larger is probably too big. Kinda pricey after shipping (maybe if they didn't send their thick fricking catalog it wouldn't be such a factor).

This doesn't exactly help you out Mu, but anyone in the US can order the flat rate board game boxes from the local PO, they are the perfect size for keyboards and I've only had one that didn't fit (Fairlight MFX3+).

More useful than our bloody post offices! I’ll see about picking up a handful when I’m next over. Likely to be on sale for walk in customers at a USPS branch office?

It really depends on the office. They aren't a popular size, so I've seen some offices have them in their stock, and others not, unfortunately.

Well most post offices don't carry them in stock, but the boxes themselves are free and the USPS also delivers anywhere in the US for free. If you ship them, you have to use priority mail though. :)

Do you? I don't remember paying priority mail prices to get mine delivered. But that was a while ago, so I could be wrong.

They are large flat-rate boxes, so they cost about $18 postage whether empty or full.

PS - works internationally at about $80 as well

I thought he meant to get the boxes themselves. I misread his post. I've used then quite often dealing with big box games, so knew the latter. :)

I’m certainly not paying international postage on them! Evil God Save Her Majesty’s Customs & Revenue would have a field day taxing me for what imponderables could lie, emptily inside!

No, I just intend to walk into a local USPS when I visit my brother and pick some up. Been there before. Seems to be a fairly sized one. The branch itself is nice, though the staff are pure Patty & Selma.

These are the ones I'm referring to by the way. You can order them to your brother's address and then take them back with you.

Has anyone ever thought about using pelicases for storage? Curious if that would be overkill (as they are water- and dust resistant).

You could even open them in case you want to display your boards :-D

A few of those and you’ve a private army on your hands. How nosy are your neighbours? That’ll be the test.

I keep mine in a pile in the closet. They're mostly Mode Fs and Ms. They've survived worse. The Focus boards act as padding.

I guess that's the way to go if you want to display them, although I hoped to keep them in a sort of enclosure and away from the insane amount of dust in my flat :D

And I'm using cardboard boxes just like most people here. Padded them with foam on the inside or packed the boards in bubblewrap-bags. On my most precious ones, I did both.
