Spammers and moderation

Is there any chances to perform some clean-up and remove bot accounts (I mean those XxxxXxxxx-patterned ones) as well as the garbage generated by them?
Few examples from sub-forum I'm visiting most often:

Maybe appointing mods who have the power to delete/ban would help… KeyboardJoy seemed to agree that moderation is important but hasn’t clicked the button to appoint any yet.

I've mentioned spam-killing moderators more than once, but I don't know if the current forum software actually supports this.

All these spam posts have links to various apps and services which only started appearing after the marketing firm bought Deskthority. Coincidence I think not, these spam posts are by KeyboardJoys company to boost Deskthority in google searches. I'm only semi joking but these spam bots do need to be dealt with.

I really don't think anyone but me is checking in, but I rarely have time anymore working full time with a commute. I just checked the moderator logs and basically it's me deleting stuff mid July -> some users managing their own posts -> me deleting everything again just now.
I have no idea where anyone else is or why the forum owner isn't stepping in to try and sort out this issue.

I reported most of them
and would have myself deleted them and the spammer if I had the power to.
Same, by the way, for the guy who registered just to practically destroy a wiki entry.

Most people have, it's just there is nothing we can do about it since DT is effectively an unmoderated space now. Compgeke was the only person doing anything for months now, when the owners should be pulling their own weight. We're more likely to build matter/antimatter reactors in our cupboards before this gets dealt with.

Yep. Spam is annoying and degrades quality of the site.
My suggestion (seen on another similar site): Make every newly registered user read-only by default - until they email a short essay (like five or ten sentences) about themselves and why they're interested in keyboards.
If their story looks genuine, make them read-write.
If they don't send anything in the next 10 days or send something already received, delete them.
This shouldn't discourage truly interested people but tire the spammers.
OR: Add "Mark as spam" button. If like four senior-enough members flag a post this way, it will disable the user automatically.

At this point, shouldn't we be pressuring the guy by, say, sending him one rubber-dome keyboard per week until he does what needs to be done?

I did not say good rubber-dome keyboards. We also have the option of "tuning up the pressure" by moving on from (bad) rubber-domes to chiclet-garbage units and beyond.

Alternatively, we could give up on this forum and move somewhere that isn't owned by an Arasaka analogue.

I think that will happen naturally. I pretty much just come here now to check in on the F77 group buy thread.headphone_jack wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 18:59Alternatively, we could give up on this forum and move somewhere that isn't owned by an Arasaka analogue.
Whenever I go to other areas and click on a new thread... it's spam.

I just can't get over how much the "new" owners are running this site into the ground LOL
Pretty sure last Christmas when Oliver had to explain to his dad where all the money went he was given, Deskthority was just in the list of write-offs
