That sounds really sketchy, but perhaps they are having problems with order fulfillment in their supply chain? It would explain why I cant place an order as they are trying to sort out older ones first. Have they sent email correspondence or made a statement?
When I placed the order, I got the automatic "Thank you for your order. We will notify you when it is shipped" email and that was it. No other correspondence of any kind. The "updates" section on the web site has not been updated since 2021.
I will send an email inquiry next week and will see what happens.

I don't know how accurate a gauge this is, but here are two that sold recently (approx 2 weeks ago):

https://www.jauce.com/auction/p1058156164
https://www.jauce.com/auction/n1058875441

Both sold for the same price: 71,718JPY

Most recent acquisition from eBay, its a JDL Topre 126-key but it does not match the models shown on the wiki:
wiki/Topre_JDL

I got it for around £200 as my first Topre and curious if it really was worth the price. Here's the picture from the listing:
s-l1600 (5).jpg
These JDLs show up on Yahoo Auctions every now and then. There are a bunch of different "EKUJ-" models with slight differences, but they're very similar. They're certainly not common like Realforces and HHKB, but they're also nowhere near the rarest. They usually sell for around 7000-10,000JPY*, which comes out to about 60 quid max. If you use a proxy service like Buyee, your total costs including shipping/customs to the UK would be about 100 quid (using Buyee's FedEx service for shipment, which is super cheap but usually very fast too).

*my reference for these prices (you'll need a VPN if located in EU/UK, and you'll need to scroll past a few irrelevant items)

So, in that sense, you've overpaid by a fair bit. But if you really like the model, you might have been waiting a few months for more of them to show up on Yahoo. That's time and effort, which could be worth more than the 100 quid difference to you, and could make it a great value purchase from your perspective.

For what it's worth, that eBay seller "c.p-81" almost never sells things at competitive/"good" prices. I think I've seen maybe one exception to that rule over the past few years.

£200 is probably market value for such a board. It looks a solid piece. How do you like the layout?
I know you probably mean well Mu, but I think you should refrain from offering your appraisals on items you have no clue about. It's benign here; the other member already bought the keyboard and they're clearly happy with it, but in other situations you could easily mislead people and influence their decisions - you are an active and "elder" member here, after all, your words probably mean something to new members.

Not only that, but if you have no exposure to the (surprisingly active) vintage keyboard markets, I think you should refrain from giving appraisals entirely. Because without exposure to the markets, how could you possibly comment on the "market price" with any accuracy? I'm not trying to be harsh, I've just seen how inaccurate appraisals can cause a lot of issues for people. Both on the "too high" end and the "too low" end.

^ Yes, this is true. I like the look of the board in question and it does strike me as “about as nice as a Realforce” and a bit more interesting too. But I’m not watching auctions so that opinion isn’t grounded in the actual question: how much do these sell for? I’ll try to fight my instinct to answer when it comes to nuts and bolts. It’s not like I can restore justice to the market by myself.

How much are IBM Pingmasters these days? I cant find any for sale with the exception of one trade listing on this site where a member wants to trade up to a beamspring. I have a raw board that I have scored two sets of selectric keycaps for recently along with a usb converter and weighing up wheather it would be worth trading it for a pingmaster and waiting another day to buy an additional beamspring. I can link the trade post in question as they also have a wang and zenith available for trade but I dont want to bring unwanted attention or acidently break a rule. The beamspring by itself was €500 with around anouther €75 for the caps and €40 for the converter

Well, there ought to be a lot of cash in that trade. I’ll leave the actual amount to those who can more straightforwardly answer your question. (As Photekq says: I really don’t follow the auctions.)

FWIW, they actually got in touch with me asking if I’d trade my beamspring with any of their stuff and I turned them down. Don’t fancy any of it, personally. Happier with my recent Model M for blue Alps Focus trade. And that’s what matters, in my view: both of you should be stepping up to something you like more.

Currently don't have it on hand but here are the boards original listing photos I have, aside from the pcb being replaced with an xwhatsit converter and the front plate being cleaned up it its pretty much the same:

I believe its an IBM 5251. The selectrics are a full clean set of black, with a another set of grey which is missing 2 caps for legend 3 and F if I remember correctly. The switches operate perfectly from what I can feel, but I have not gotten round to cleaning them out yet.

Minor correction, the selectric blacks lack the 2u/shift keycaps and the mega 2x2u enter.

Found a photo of the caps:

Oh blimey, I misunderstood your last post a fair bit. So when you said it's a raw board, you meant just the internal assembly with no casing

That's a really hard thing to evaluate. On the one hand, that internal assembly looks like it's in decent nick (externally anyway). On the other hand, an original casing's going to be really hard to find for that; I can't say I've ever seen another beamspring where the internals and casing have been split apart. I know that febin was working on aftermarket casings for the 5251 and some other IBM boards, but I don't know if it's possible to get your hands on one. Honestly, I think the value of the internal assembly alone would be nearly impossible to pinpoint - some might say 200$, others might say $500. It's hard to judge, since it's going to be so hard to complete the package. It would probably be worth most as parts - i.e selling switch parts individually.

If you really want a Pingmaster, and they're willing to take the assembly alone, I think it'd be a fair enough trade - maybe a little bit less fair on your end, you could propose that he covers shipping both ways. It's pretty much impossible for me to say that completely objectively though, because the 5251 assembly is such an odd thing to value.

That's not a 5251. Either a 3278 or 3276.

trust me when i tell you, its not worth the trade, since a pingmaster can generally be bought for around 250$ these days. if you ask me, just be a little patient and keep an eye on reddit mechmarket, they pop up here and there. as photek said its hard to define what is worth how much, if you look at ebay listings 2 of these beamspring switches cost 50$, obviously thats too much, but my point is, at the end of the day each person has to value his good himself.

Damn really?

Thats making me seriously re consider now. The 3276 is kind of my dream board and I thought I only had the lowly 5251. Either way I think I am going to follow the advice so far and hold onto it and keep an eye out for other listings

Pardon my naivety but who is febin? Tried searching their name on the forum but no cigar. To be honest if what the other people on this thread are saying is anything to by I might just keep hold of the board for now, especially if it may actually be a 3276 model.

Damn I wish I had a decent cap set to go with the board now. I know a carpenter that can probably make a desk for the module to sit in and make it whole again, but the oddball selectrics will just bug me now. Don't want to derail the topic further but does anyone know of anyway to adapt MX mount keycaps to beamspring adapters so I can do this keyboard justice of a proper layout close to the original?
